New Boots - the Ferret - 02-28-2018
My old Alpinestars Alpha Touring WP boots have been good boots, despite being rather inexpensive to buy. I found the fit good, the comfort good, they have never leaked, the soles have had good traction on all surfaces. Must confess I have never taken particularly good care of them as far as cleaning or putting on any protective dressing, but then again, they are synthetic, and not real leather. They have endured almost daily wear in rain, snow, below freezing temps, blazing summer sun, over 100 degree temps, and maybe 200,000 miles on the road. After several years the synthetic material on top of the foot started cracking. I talked to an Alpinestar sales rep who claimed to have never heard of that issue before, but I know others who it has happened to. Also the left zipper has started getting stubborn. It was time for new boots. If i were less frugal, I 'd have gone for some Gore Tex model with a sewn on sole by Dainese, or Sidi or something, but I can't bring myself to spend $400 for a pair of boots.
So knowing they had served me beyond what was expected I started searching for a new pair. Unfortunately Alpinestars discontinued the Alpha Touring WP model of boot, but they have several other WP boots in their line up. I ended up choosing the Roam WP boot. Very similar in appearance to my old boots, and instead of zippers in the sides there is now velcro. Online distibutor Revzilla had them in stock for $179, and I had $15 Revzilla bucks credit so $165 bucks got them delivered to my door in 2 days, arriving today. I think they are a little harder to put on than my old ones and a little tight at this point, but it's hard to compare brand new never worn boots to one's that you have worn and walked in day after day for years. I am confident that soon they will be as comfy as my old boots.
Fingers crossed for both comfort and water proof- ness lol.

Awesome. There's nothing like that "new boot" smell. Especially when compared to the "old boot" smell!

I love my Alpinestars WP Roam boots. They are comfortable, warm in cooler weather and not hot in the summer. They are also easy to walk in. The soles can be a little slippery on sandy soft shoulders however.
My only gripe is my stomach gets in the way of my lungs tightening the Velcro straps. But that is not a fault of the boots, and I would rather have Velcro than laces.
I have been through a few rainstorms, and they never leaked. I treat them with [url=https://www.waltersshoecare.com/product/walter-dubbin-protector/]Walter's Dubbin Leather Protector. That keeps them shiny clean and soft. Tootsies Shoe Market stores sell Dubbin here in Canada, along with some great winter boots.

In 2009 I bought a pair of boots at the Triumph dealer that were made for Triumph by Alpinestars and are the best boots I've ever owned.
They've been through a lot in the last nine years and are still in great condition.

Nice-looking boots, ferret! I wish I could wear mid-calf boots, but large calves relative to foot size apparently keeps me in ankle-high boots with a calf cut at the back. However I can attest to the WP character of Alpinestars. I've got the [url=https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-new-land-gtx-boots]New Land GTX boot. I've ridden through some frog chokers and ridden in all-day drizzle and my feet stayed dry.

I just ordered the SIDI Canyon Gore-Tex boots from Revzilla. Now y'all are making me question my thinking. Dangit. Oh well, we will have to ride and compare.

My main thing was the replaceable out-sole. I go through the bottoms fast on boots. Maybe I should stop dragging my feets!

That's an important feature for my younger brother as well. Real leather, sewn on soles. He's more of a cadillac man, I'm more of a Honda Accord kinda guy lol. He keeps boots for 25 years. I will have 5 pair in that time frame.

A wealthy friend who we respect once told my wife that you should only buy what you need, and then only buy the best. I can't say that I follow that advice all the time, but it is good to have that excuse in my pocket when she finds out how much I spend on riding gear!
