BMG Zodiac Jacket - emptysea - 06-22-2021
Former CB1100 rider and current Forum member, Capo, owns and operates British Motorcycle Gear. BMG is "a small, family owned business, committed to personal service, offering a curated selection of riding apparel designed for comfort, durability, protection, and style." I like their selection of gear although some of it is beyond my financial means to acquire.
Their Zodiac jacket is priced out at $149.00, but I believe that Forum members get a discount of 10%. That's about the same as my current summer jacket, the Olympia Dallas. The Dallas is a great jacket, but it was a little too big for me when I bought it and it's practically falling off of me now that I shed a few pounds. I messaged Capo and we talked jacket sizing and motorcycles for a bit. I placed the order yesterday and hope to have it before we leave for Custer, SD on July 2nd. In an odd coincidence, Capo and a riding friend may be in Custer around the same time my group is. We've exchanged cell #s in case there's an opportunity to meet up out there.

I will opine on it's fit, style, and performance upon my return from South Dakota. In the meantime, I want to report that the personalized service I received from BMG was off the chart. If you're in the market for some stylish and high quality gear, you should check them out.

Looking forward to your review. My only current summer jacket is a multi-season Olympia with the liner removed. It's dark olive, similar to our local constabulary, and with a white helmet, seems like I make drivers ahead of me nervous.

i'm interested in how this turns out. Take it out over the highway on a 90 degree day and report back. I took a look at the jacket and the first thing i thought was..."where's all the mesh?"
i've been "burned" too many times by jackets claiming to be summer jackets that have no large mesh panels. I have a very hard time believing that it actually breathes and gives you a lot of wind without plenty of mesh. "vents" just don't cut it when it's 120 degrees over the highway.

Ultimate test? --> Profuse hot, hazy, humid July summer midday in Chicago traffic congestion, trapped and nowhere to go.
Hopefully the rider won't pass out during the jacket test.

Exactly my concern. I'm hoping that it won't be hot enough in SoDak to get a full 90+ degree test, but I'm sure I'll have a couple of the days G.O. describes coming up.
The wet t-shirt/cooling vest method should actually be more effective with less mesh, but again, that remains to be seen. Worse comes to worse, though, I'll have a good spring/fall jacket. If that turns out to be the case, then I'll just have to buy a new mesh jacket next summer (don't mention this to Cheryl...she'll either kill the idea or use it as an excuse to buy more gear for herself)

LOL. I actually think I got more questioning looks from children when I was soaking my shirt in a water fountain on a 95 degree day in The George Rogers Clark Historical Park, Vincennes, Indiana. I know that a mom grabbed her little one by the hand and walked him a safe distance from me.

Interested in the review also, but I always question the colors chosen for these summer gear sorts of things. I don't care how well it vents, black isn't likely the best choice.
