Steve McQueen earned my respect both by becoming both an expert racer of cars and bikes, but also by producing Le Mans, the best car movie ever made. Thanks for the link.

Steve McQueen was such a great actor and racer. I was at Sebring in 1970 I think, when he and Peter Revson came close to winning that race in a Porsche 908. Mario Andretti, however, won the race, taking the wheel of another team Ferrari 512 after his car suffered mechanical problems and just edging Steve and Peter out by race end. Probably the best race I've ever watched.
Sad that McQueen's life was cut short by cancer. We'll not see his like again.

The Great Escape is one of my favourite movies of all time. Real acting by real actors and not all special effects like the movies of today.
We lost James Garner recently as well as other cast members since the 1963 movie. McQueen (aka Harvey Mushman) left us at age 50. I always enjoyed McQueen's performances and I think I have seen every movie he made - including "The Blob"
Many Hollywood actors rode motorcycles and drove fast cars, but McQueen was a cut above all of them with his skill behind the bars and the wheel.
