Parking pass holder - Pauley - 11-03-2016
So my company moved to a new office recently. Parking is in a surface lot and a parking pass is required. The pass is the "hang from the rear view mirror" type. I want to ride my motorcycle to work a few times a week but I have no way of securing my pass to my bike. If I just hung it on the handlebar it would walk off.
I found this on the internet but it's close to $50 with shipping and pretty flimsy for what you get. http://www.loginparking.com/holders.html
Anyone have any suggestions for a more cost effective alternate?

I would talk to the parking lot and find out what they have for bikes.

Maybe you could make one by buying a 12x12 inch plexiglass sheet (1/16th inch thick?), cutting out 2 pieces to a bit larger than the parking pass and then drilling holes to fasten together with some type of bolts. Water proofing may take some creativity. Then buy a cable lock to fasten to the bike.

I would buy a sheet of Lexan (very tough stuff) and epoxy two sheets over the pass, sandwich like.

Is it the kind where you have to show a guard your pass in order to get in? If so why would you have to display it at all on the bike when you aren't on it ( it's parked). Only those who showed id could get in so if your bike is in there, you obviously showed it. I would talk to parking people and see if it needs to be displayed when parked. If not put it in tank bag and show them when you get there, then carry tank bag in with you after you park

I agree. Before you do anything find out what is required by the parking lot and proceed from there.

It's an unattended lot. The building security comes around several times a day and checks tags and deals with the offenders (a written warning or 2 then towing). So the tag has to be displayed in or on the vehicle.
If no one knows of a commercially available cost effective solution, I'll make one out of Lexan and a luggage lock.

This is why you need to get with the lot and find out what their solution is before getting a pass stolen and your bike towed. Yours can't be the first bike that they have had to deal with, so they must have something in place for this contingency.

Give them your license plate number and make sure they associate it with your parking pass. That should do it.

maybe make a xerox of the original and display it on the bike, if it gets taken you still have the original if asked?
