I get subconscious alarm bells in my head at those times when heightened focus is required. Shifting focus to the rear when stopping at an intersection (and flashing the brake light) has saved my bacon more than once in the past few years. If there are cars ahead, I also leave enough room to dart alongside the car ahead when some distracted driver doesn't notice stopped traffic. When landing my plane my focus is locked exclusively on the first 1K ft. of runway once I turn final. Numerous times I've had people say that they were parked right next to the runway, waving at me as I came in. Never saw them.
