Marty Smith MX champ dies. - the Ferret - 04-28-2020 He and his wife Nancy were killed in a dune buggy roll over in California. Us old MX fans remember him well, and remember his epic battles with Bob Hannah in the 125 class. RIP Marty and Nancy Smith RE: Marty Smith MX champ dies. - Lord Popgun - 04-28-2020 Thats bad and I'm sorry to hear it even though I didn't know of him. That said, I don't know anything about dune buggies but do they not have harnesses and roll cages? RE: Marty Smith MX champ dies. - the Ferret - 04-28-2020 He was not wearing a harness and his wife was wearing a lap belt. The two people in the rear of the buggy were not hurt. https://nypost.com/2020/04/28/motocross-icon-marty-smith-wife-dead-in-dune-buggy-accident/ RE: Marty Smith MX champ dies. - Guth_imp - 04-28-2020 This one hurts. RE: Marty Smith MX champ dies. - Powerdogg55 - 04-28-2020 Saw Marty & "Hurricane Hannah" battle for the lead at many races. Talked with him between moto's at Burnt Hickory motocross track in Georgia way back when. Super nice guy and a phenomenal MX rider with Team Honda. God's speed my friend. RE: Marty Smith MX champ dies. - widude - 05-04-2020 Sounds like a freaky accident. With the load, back seat passengers, one would think they’d be more in the ‘touring’ & sightseeing mindset. I do realize, just a bit downhill at an angle can cause a rollover(& whatever else). Tragic no doubt for family, friends, & fans. |
