Helmet Shield / Visor clear protector film - activedirt_imp - 10-14-2018
I just replaced the Visor or Shield on my HJC helmet. If I remember correctly this is the second time for this particular helmet. The material in these shields is soft and they scratch rather easily, at least mine seem to. Does anyone use any form of clear protector film on their visor/shield? Like the stuff we can put on our phones etc.. It may be hard to find a protector film that is cut to match any particular helmet but using a razor blade to trim a sheet of film seems rather reasonable.

Had the same visor on my HJC modular helmet for probably 6-7 years before replacing the helmet, no significant scratches.
I always clean the shields with running water and gently rub them then dry with a microfiber cloth. My optician recommenced this method, slow but works.

Dont think I've ever replaced an HJC shield. I clean mine after every ride with clear warm water on a washcloth and dry with another soft washcloth.

a expensive helmet i think has also better quality of shield.....but plastic is plastic and very sensitiv. so i am still very careful to this holly thing.....and the bodys of the insects are harder as the shieldplastic....i make it soft first with normal windowscleaner that i can it after powerless rub away

Same for me, I've never replaced an HJC shield and both of my helmets are 7-8 years old. The HJC's previous to that were the same.
I treat them the same was as ferret when they are dirty; warm water to soften the debris and rinse off under the hot water tap - adjusted to warm of course.
Paper towel can be abrasive so use it with great care. A soft cloth is better for drying.

Never had to replace a visor on my Arai's .
I keep them clean with the Honda spray polish and micro fibre cloth.
(also use the same on my glasses ! )

Activedirt, you may want to consider experimenting with affixing a Pinlock shield to the outside of your faceshield. It's not designed to be installed this way, but it may solve your issue.
If you routinely use paper products to clean your shield, you may want to stop. As others have noted, warm water and a microfiber cloth (or even a t-shirt) is better.
