Anybody notice that the Progressive shows were cancelled? - Gone in 60 - 11-09-2022

I was looking forward to attending this year's Progressive IMS Show at the Orange County Fairgrounds. It's a great opportunity to take demo rides and check out all of the products on display. It's always right after the SEMA trade show that I attend for business, so I got home and checked the website, and found out that the shows were cancelled this year.

Here's the explanation on their website: https://www.motorcycleshows.com/MotorCycleShows/home/IMS-Tour-Suspended.html

"We have news to share today with our IMS Family. After 40 years of producing The International Motorcycle Shows and IMS Outdoors, we have made the difficult decision to suspend the IMS Tour in 2022.

The powersports industry is at a crossroads with where and how brands promote their products amidst the continued manufacturing and sourcing delays associated with the pandemic. These current hurdles that our brand partners are facing would have made it difficult for us to produce an IMS that would meet your, and our, expectations. Therefore, we will not be moving forward with the planned 2022 events, including the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show.

Any tickets purchased or Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show registrations paid for 2022 events will be refunded to the credit card used for purchase within the next 7 business days.

We greatly appreciate your attendance and loyalty over the years and will miss sharing your love for motorcycling with you."

Poopy indeed. But, with the current weirdness in the market, I can sort of understand it. I swung by the local multi-brand dealership yesterday on the way home from work to see what new inventory they had. So many Polaris RZRs that they took up half of the parking lot and most of the sales floor. But for Honda, just two Navis and a bunch of dirt bikes - nothing else road-legal. Pretty much the same for their Yamaha, Kawi and Suzuki inventory.

I've seen it coming. We used to attend the IMS in Cleveland back when the place was packed with vendors and attendees. Manufacturers had large spaces with their whole lineups. Then we started noticing the line to get in was shrinking each year, once in there were less people. Many of the independent vendors selling things like gear, trailers, etc. were no longer there. The manufacture's spaces got smaller and smaller to the point only part of their lineup was on display. Some manufacturers simply pulled out citing the high cost of display space per sg ft at a time that they were having to tighten their own belts.

We went to the one and only outdoor show in Carlisle PA. Ride out there, stayed in Carlisle for the weekend and made an event out of it. Had a blast. Shame it's cancelled...the demo ride atmosphere was fantastic!
