Bronze tinted headers - RDE3036_imp - 09-13-2014

I bought the 13 CB the beginning of August 2014. Within 250 miles the headers had turned the usual bronze color. Since I'm retired and have nothing else to do I decided to clean them up.

The wife just had me clean the stainless steel fridge with Bar Keepers Friend and it worked great , so I figured it would work ok on the SST headers.

The headers cleaned up great and now at 1000 miles the headers are still shiny. Hopefully, they will stay this way.

Has anyone else found anything to tame the bronze?

Embrace the bronze! Tongue I tried S100, no luck. But awesome at cleaning the rest of the bike!!

I, too have embraced the bronze... But every once in a while I get the urge to shine them up again. Thanks for the tip on the barkeepers friend!

Nah!! Embrace the bronze. I figure it has to be a design feature. Tongue

I also believe the bronze tint is by design. I have never polished mine and they look better as the tint darkens. If I ever opt for shiny headers I would probably replace them for double wall chrome ones.
Thanks for the tip on the Bar Keepers Friend.

I could live with the bronze, but not those nasty brown splotches. They make the pipes look rusty.

Just cleaned them; Semichrome with the Dremel to remove the spots, then Mutha's with rags to even it up.
I'm all set till the next time it rains.

What a pain in the rump.

Bronze was and still is the choice of many great artists. A beautiful color. As for nasty brown splotches, it ain't no work of art, it's a motorcycle (a darned good one). Everybody have fun, ride safe, and enjoy.

Yoshimura STAIN-Magic.

My experience with this product is you can have it all:

* Rid brown splotches.
* Remove purple/blue hues.
* Regain that silver look.
* Ultimately and gently fall back to light gold, and without the brown/purple/blues.
* Maintain the gold look.
* No electric tools.
* No steel wool or (eek!), sandpaper.

So far, once a year application for me.

For me the trick is to put some oil on the shining headers whenever you're not riding like Ballistol. It hinders new brown dots. First you make them shine with something like Autosol, it takes a while, then you conservate them and wipe the oil away each time you go out for a ride. An ever repeating procedere but with the benefit of a golden shimmering 4 in 1 exhaust. In my eyes the best looking one for the CB with a nice color contrast to rest of the bike. From time to time you use Autosol again, if you find it necessary, but it will not take the same long time as it once did to refresh the glance of the headers.
