Found my limit - the Ferret - 11-27-2014 ...as far as riding the CB in cold weather. Went for my daily ride this morning. Chose to ride the CB as it hadn't been getting much love lately since the snow last week. Temperature was a damp 28 degrees, overcast with light snow flurries coming down. Thought I was dressing warm enough. Donned the snowmobile outfit, my thickest cold weather gloves and heavy balaclava with the neoprene face mask. At 9 miles my finger tips were starting to get cold. At 11 miles they were really cold, at 13 miles they were starting to hurt, and at a stop sign I reached down and grabbed the cylinder fins on each side of the motor to warm them up some. I circled around back towards the house. At 18 miles my finger tips were aching. At 21 miles I was back in the garage, thankful to be out of this stinking cold. I rode the ST 108 miles yesterday, but it has a full fairing/windshield, and I had my electric jacket liner and glove liners plugged in. What a difference. Poor CB may be doing more sitting than being ridden in the next few months unless the temps moderate some ![]() I did order 2 new tires for it yesterday [url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/Thanksgivingday2014009_zpsc69e7ecd.jpg.html]
RE: Found my limit - nhawk7504_imp - 11-27-2014 I'll pass. Brr. Nice windscreen. Screens are always noisy for me though. Only one that really works is one that scoops towards me. RE: Found my limit - metallyguitarded_imp - 11-27-2014 You certainly look warm enough! Haha. And, if it's just your fingertips that are the problem, I'm sure there are ways to solve that. Maybe you just need to upgrade your gloves. Have you tried these new Held Cold Weather Gloves? [url=http://s51.photobucket.com/user/jamesfontaine/media/imagesCA6OKQ5K.jpg.html]
RE: Found my limit - emptysea - 11-27-2014 Brrrr. I'm having grip heaters installed, but I still don't think I'd venture forth in that kind of cold. Well, maybe if I bought a heated jacket....hmmmm...time to shop! RE: Found my limit - metallyguitarded_imp - 11-27-2014 (11-27-2014, 03:06 AM)EmptySea_imp Wrote: Brrrr. I'm not sure what I'm feeling more of - guilt or gratitude. Gratitude. Yup, that's it. I tip my helmet to those of you with brutal cold winters who still manage to hit the road on two wheels. RE: Found my limit - emptysea - 11-27-2014 Hey..I just got back from a three mile run in the same conditions as Ferret rode in....and I was in SHORTS! We're of hardy stock here in the Midwest. I think I go sleepy now. Nite Nite. RE: Found my limit - metallyguitarded_imp - 11-27-2014 Hey! Empty! Wake up! That's hypothermia, not sleepiness! Don't go into the light! RE: Found my limit - emptysea - 11-27-2014 TOO FUNNY!!
Found my limit - Cormanus - 11-27-2014 What sort of tyres have you ordered, Ferret? I spent some time hovering over the Report This Thread option. But who would I be reporting to? Mmmmmm. I thought that I had some expertise in the click-bait-thread-title bake off (remember "Females for Sale"?), but Ferret, this really does put you firmly in the final round. "What's the Ferret done?" "What limit?" Trembling with anticipation I read on. Rev limiter? Top speed limiter? A bank angle in excess of 60deg and hero pegs ground down to nothing? 400yard mono with Mrs Ferret on the pillion? No. Nup. Not at all. Negative. Non, Nein and Nyet. Just "My little fingies are cold". Harden up man! It's only the lack of heat that's worrying you. . Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving. |
