Last mountain ride? - Doug_imp - 09-13-2015

Could be last time this year, hopefully I can get up there again before the snow flies. Had the day off Friday 9/11 so suited up and headed for the hills. Was kind of cold till about noon, but was perfect in the afternoon. Took a ride over Boreas Pass which goes from Breckenridge to the town of Como a few miles NW of Fairplay. First pic is looking back at the ski slopes of Breckenridge (I have lived in Co. since 1964 and never had the desire to try skiing). Boreas Pass road is about 20 mi. of gravel road, pretty smooth for the most part and not too loose. The aspen were starting to change, will look much better next week but could not get next Fri. off. This was a railroad line in the 1800's when mining was going hot and heavy. This is some real nice country up here, but no way I would live there. I couldn't have picked a better day to go for a spin. The top of the pass, 11,482 ft. I had a great day off. The CB ran perfect as usual and to my amazement it got 52 mpg. I realize most of the way back it was downhill, but I wasn't exactly wasting any time getting back to the cityAngel. The one thing I did on this bike was chucking the original tires and put on a set of Pilot road3's. What a difference.

Lovely photos Doug. Hope the snow holds off and gives you some extra riding time.

We are just coming into our best riding. Fall through spring as most winter days are not that cold. Me, I'm glad summer is over.

Beautiful part of the country and great photos! Thanks for sharing them. When the time comes, I think I'll switch over to the PR3s as well. I ran PR4s on my VFR800 and loved them. I'm certain the 3s will be a nice improvement over the stock rubber. Although, I should say, I have no real complaints about the stock Dunlops.

Edit: I like your change in avatar ferret. You're right, it does look clean at a distance.

Such a beutiful area. Having spent some weeks above Fairplay, I have to agree about not wanting to live there. Seems they forgot to install the air!

I am just returning from Aspen, and while I had a wonderful time, there was no riding on this trip. Saw plenty of bikes in town, was dying to get out and explore the mountain roads. Looks like it was a spectacular day, Doug!
