1915 - 2015 - Grinton_imp - 05-28-2015

1915 - 2015 - Cormanus - 05-28-2015

Grinton, brilliant photos. What a lovely, lovely country.

With thanks to Mr Google, here's what I think Grinton said:

Quote:May 24 this year marks the hundredth anniversary of Italy's entry to the First World War.
In this first commemorative tour, I went to Lavarone (TN) to visit the Forte Belvedere or better would Gscwent Werk, since it was part of a line of fortifications along the Austrian border era Italy / Austria.

I took advantage of a day off work and I have to say that browse through the mountains in late May of a working day is absolutely FABULOUS !!!

Other Tour.
Friday, July 17 the desire to climb is so cool, but unfortunately the starting point the road is not easy.
With my friend Paul and his Harley opt for a relaxing trail and not binding.
First stop the military memorial of Nervesa della Battaglia containing the remains of some of the HEROES Piave.
The road from Crocetta del Montello leads to Nervesa della Battaglia is a must go in complete ecstasy, sweet gentle ups and downs and curves in a landscape that offers the right the forest of Montello and left the bed of the Piave.
inside the monument it is also set up a museum.

Visited the ossuary, we decide to freshen up a bit 'by choosing a route altitude.
Therefore we head to Pederobba, where along the way Feltrina stands the imposing monument to the French most of immortalized during another round.
From Pederobba we climb onto Via Monfenera, a narrow lane with hairpin bends quite challenging for the heavy Harley Paul, but once at altitude, the show makes up for all the hard work. The road runs in some places right on top of the mountain, offering views of the valleys both left and right.
Advancing in contemplation, and savoring the fresh, we remember that probably would be better to also enjoy something more concrete and then, along the way cross a pasture / refreshment, we stop for a well-deserved snack of suppressed, ham and Morlacco and Bastard ( the two cheeses plateau).
Always following the road, we come finally to the Shrine of Cima Grappa, another symbol in memory of the many soldiers who lost their lives during the war of '15 -'18.
Even in Cima Grappa there is a museum with weapons and objects from the period.

Looks like a wonderful tour. Thank you for the great pictures. I believe my grandfather was an ambulance driver in France, and later in Italy, during WWI. I'll have to ask my mom about that.
