Hwy 89 from North Ogden to Brigham City and Corinne Utah. Part 1 of 2 - Frulk_imp - 02-28-2016

Went for a loop ride today which took me north of Ogden, Utah along old Highway 89 to Brigham City. Temps barely made it into the 50's and at points where I gained elevation by 4-500 feet they dropped back into the mid 40's as those were narrow little canyons with snow on both sides. Once north of Brigham, I turned west towards Corinne (a small berg consisting of a couple of businesses, one of the only bars in northern Utah and a gas station). Out west of Corinne is nothing developed, just the old Bonneville Lake bed as you head west towards the Golden Spike Memorial and ATK Thiokol. After I visited The transcontinental Rail Road cut I turned back north past ATK's HHQ Facility and rocket display and headed north for a few miles before turning hard east and towards Tremonton Utah(located just off the I-15). Driving down the old Main Street I stopped at the WW2 Memorial that also incorporated other wars into the pavilion. From there I rode due east until hitting Old Highway 89 at the base of the Wasatch Mountains where I turned south on 89 and drove back towards Brigham City, eventually connecting with my previous route.

One point. I took a couple of these pics yesterday. I made this trip back to back yesterday and today. Saturday I rode with a buddy and didn't have time to take pics. I made up for that by going solo today. That's why the cloud cover looks different in them. Sunday was basically clear of clouds.

I pulled off the interstate to take this picture of the North Ogden Ridgeline on the way to Hwy 89.

The ride was about 139 miles long and started in this area on Hwy 89. This is North Ogden looking NE at Ben Lomond just above the small town of Pleasant View.

Looking west towards Willard Bay and the low mountains beyond it. The bay is a 9,000 acre fresh water impoundment that's popular with boaters and folks that like to fish. It's one of 5 or 6 lakes in Utah that have the non-native to Utah species of Walleye in it.

The crags above the town of Willard. Mt Goats still run the ridges up there and Utah allows a hunt each year.

This fruit stand was one of many that dotted Hwy 89 back in the day giving the route its "Utah's Fruit Highway" designation. Hwy 89 runs north/south at the base of the Wasatch Front for many miles. At one time Utah did not import any fruit for its population unless it was something exotic. That's long over. Since the orchards are right at the base of the mountains and somewhat elevated it's prime real estate these days for the those that want to build their McMansions with a view.

Hwy 89 going north into Brigham City. Look closely in the middle towards the left of the picture and you'll see the spires of the recently constructed Brigham City Mormon Temple. Beyond the intersection Brigham Main Street starts. Follow it and you'll run directly into the old core of the town.

Brigham City's historic downtown. A small slice of Americana that's becoming harder and harder to find.

I always make it a point to stop at the war memorials of these smaller towns to become familiar with the history of their shared contributions to the greater good.

These type of non-franchise car-hop burger joints still dot parts of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming but they're a dying breed.

This ends the first part of the trip. Next part will cover Corinne to Promontory Point and ATK Thiokol and Tremonton and the return.

Frulk, I always enjoy your detailed and informative seat time reports. I purchased my CB1100 specifically with routes like US89 in mind. Also, UT12 which I still need to ride through the southern Utah canyon country. My Goldwing is for blasting up and down I-15 through the state. The CB is a very different experience.

NVBobr, I've been on 12 a lot and spend a significant amount of time in southern Utah during the colder months. 12's a great route with lot's to offer if you're a motorcyclist. Couple of years back 12 was in the news because an ADV rider was killed due to the fact some boy scouts were cutting trees and one dropped across the road and the rider had all the gear on but never had a chance. Never heard what the legal outcome was.

I googled the news report. Oct. 2014. Motorcyclist was 69 years old. There are various ways to die on a motorcycle, I guess.

Great pics and ride Frulk!

Boy Scouts dropping trees next to a highway? I suspect someone had a serious chat with their scoutmaster.
