Day 3: Rock Springs, WY to eastern CO - kennyw - 06-15-2016 Day 3 map: 393 miles, ~12 hours (a lot of stops to dry out or avoid rain) I will come back to add pics from my phone app... RE: Day 3: Rock Springs, WY to - Cormanus - 06-15-2016 Looking forward to the pics, kenny. Hope you didn't get too wet. Day 3: Rock Springs, WY to - kennyw - 06-16-2016 I headed south from Rock Springs, Wyoming on WY 430. I actually ran into a cattle drive and spurred for a few minutes waiting for them to cross the road. It starts out as a great scenic road. What I didn't realize was it would turn into a gravel road looking at Google maps. Luckily it wasn't muddy and actually one of the nicest gravel roads you will find in the USA. I was able to run 45 mph on the straight sections. RE: Day 3: Rock Springs, WY to - Pterodactyl_imp - 06-16-2016 Wow. Cheers Day 3: Rock Springs, WY to - kennyw - 06-16-2016 Once back on the asphalt, I started heading east towards the mountains. Since I was running 5 hours ahead of schedule, I took the advise to head up through Walden, CO. As I approached the first storm was rolling in. I was pumping gas when the skies opened up the first time. I decided to sit down for a cup of coffee and wait it out at first. After the first one passed, I headed out trying to hit the pass in between two storms. Unfortunately, that plan failed and I think those two storms just merged into one. Once the rain stopped and skies cleared on the east side of the pass, I stopped for a quick change into dry clothes and got back on the road. I was not able to find the waterproof lining for my lining pants though. The river was flooded due to the storms. As I was talking these pics it started to rain again so I got moving again. RE: Day 3: Rock Springs, WY to - Rick Froscheiser_imp - 06-16-2016 Great pictures! Thanks for the updates on your trip. Travel safe my friend. RE: Day 3: Rock Springs, WY to eastern CO - Cormanus - 06-16-2016 Still looks very pretty, kenny. Hope it didn't rain too long. RE: Day 3: Rock Springs, WY to eastern CO - Rocky_imp - 06-16-2016 Loving the pictures Ride safe. Day 3: Rock Springs, WY to eastern CO - kennyw - 06-17-2016 I quickly got on the bike when it started to rain and headed east. For the most part, my riding pants do well in light rain. It is the heavy downpours that require the waterproof liner that I could not locate. I made it to a small gas station just as the rain stopped and only slightly wet this time. So I let everything air dry in the sun while getting a cup of coffee. I continued east towards the grasslands in eastern Colorado and found a campsite to stop at for the night. |
