A Ribber Run, the Mural Wall and a Pittsburg Sear - the Ferret - 07-03-2016

Yesterday we made a Ribber Run. A motorcycle ride to Portsmouth, Ohio to visit the Scioto Ribber.

A steak house that cooks their steaks outside on giant grills with real chopped fire wood. Even though the restaurant is 96.6 miles from my front door, we go several times a year for one of their 16 oz ribeye steaks (they also serve a 32 oz steak for hearty eaters), seasoned and cooked over those open flames. It helps that the trip is on some of the best curves and most scenic roads in southern Ohio (St Rt 125 and St Rt 52), passing thru the middle of the Shawnee State Forest. Several members of the family (mine and my son's wife's) had come over to cut down and cut up 13 trees in my yard a couple of weeks ago. They would do it for free, but I offered anyone who helped a steak dinner at Ribbers. Got lots of help that way lol. Yesterday was payback time, and I was the payee.

We had 4 bikes go down and 1 car with 3 people in it. My son on his new FJ-09. My brother on his new T-120. Cousin Mark on his new T120 Black, and myself on my CB. Son's FIL who also helped with the wood cutting and rides an ST 1300 and a Bonnie was not able to go.

Following was Mark's dad Mark Sr, cousin Chris (who rides a Suzuki DR350 but elected not to ride it on this trip) and Chris's fiancé. Both Chris and his fiancé had never been there before and Chris had just returned from 4 years of active duty (Marines) so they were in for a treat.

As we were ordering our steaks and sides, Chris's fiancé asked the waitress if they serve steaks cooked "Pittsburg Sear". I had never heard this term before, and neither had anyone else at the table. The waitress said yes so that's how she ordered her steak. Apparently they sear the outsides but leave the middle raw.

Jeezalou, it wasn't even cooked and was actually cold in the middle. Egads, we are not cavemen anymore, and learned to actually cook meat 10,000 years ago.

Anyhow after stuffing ourselves, and after them waking me up after I fainted paying the bill lol,(the tip alone was actually larger than I have ever paid for a meal for two) we rode down to the famous Mural Wall a few blocks away. The Mural Wall is 1/2 mile of exquisite murals painted on a flood wall depicting the history of Portsmouth

We took a different route back home over some more great roads (St Rts 104,73,348,and 125). Total trip was 198 miles. Perfect riding, perfect roads, perfect food, beautiful scenery, perfect weather, it was just an awesome day.

What a lovely ride and those steaks looked so good.

BTW, seared on the outside and raw in the middle is the best way to preserve the flavor and tenderness of steak. Venison especially should never be cooked done but should "bleed" a bit when sliced at table. A lady with impeccable tastes no doubt.

The Pittsburg Sear looks fabulous. A 16 oz steak is too big for me.

I am not sure my riding jacket would fit on after hat meL. And that steak looks like what is called rare, and it is good if the meT is good. Which that does.

Yes indeed. I saw a new 120 at the dealer in Savannah recently. What a handsome bike and lovely fit and finish.

I'll buy your steak if'n we ever get the opportunity to ride here together. My steak will be cooked someplace between "The Pittsburg" and "The Ferret", but closer to the former.

Yeah, I like my steak more toward the red side, but that Pittsburg sear is just too close to bovine sushi for my taste. Tongue

Looks like a great run, Ferret. I'm a founding member of an informal organization devoted to flying to distant locations for the purpose of eating. Most of the members also ride, so I'm thinking we should expand to the world of two wheels as well.
