Mitta Mitta-Ride - noroomtomove - 11-24-2015

Whilst at the Grand Prix at Phillip Island, a "Dactyl Oil Executive" advised me of a ride worth undertaking.
He was right on the money, it was well worth the journey. I was a lucky bloke as when I got to Mitta Mitta I had the added bonus of doing the whole trip once again on the way home. A serious smile on the dial. Engine ran like a dream, lubricated by "Dactyl Hubris Omni grade".

Mitta Mitta post office and general store. (Petrol station ,cafe you get the drift it's a small place)

You get the idea of what the sign is about and it's all good!

Commenced the journey at 7:00 am, the ride was 602 km in total. It was a foggy start, warming to hot by midday and constant rain from Omeo to home. This is the type of weather we get in Mexico. I started the journey a few meters above sea level, and reached a peak crossing the Great Dividing Range. Arrived home at 6:30 pm, glad to have met the "Dactyl Oil Executive" and that I had taken his advice.

For those that like the fuel stat's I filled up to the bottom of the filler neck from a jerry can at home and set the trip meter to zero. Purchase the fuel below after 302 km journey to Mitta Mitta refueling to the same datum on the centre stand.

Bairnsdale 3.73l @ $1.34 per liter cost $5.00
Omeo 5.40l @ $1.39 per liter cost $7.50
Mitta Mitta 4.84l @ $1.55 per liter cost $7.50
Total 13.97l for a cost of $20.00

2010 CB100 4.61 l per 100 km or for my American CB1100 colleagues 51.02 miles to the US gallon.
Versus the Saturn V 7 inches to the Gallon the benchmark for ultimate fuel consumption.

To place the location of Omeo - Mitta Mitta for those not familiar with this part of Australia, Omeo is in Gippsland 400 km (250 miles) east of Melbourne. Mitta Mitta is a small settlement 100km (60 miles) north of Omeo on the other side of The Great Dividing Range, this " is Australia's most substantial mountain range and the third longest land-based range in the world. The range stretches more than 3,500 kilometres (2,175 mi) from Dauan Island off the northeastern tip of Queensland, running the entire length of the eastern coastline through New South Wales, then into Victoria and turning west, before finally fading into the central plain at the Grampians in western Victoria. The width of the range varies from about 160 km (100 mi) to over 300 km (190 mi)".(this information is from Wiki)

Check out Pterodactyls video "Australia's best MC road? Ride it with me." It covers the ride from Omeo to Mitta Mitta.

Regards.

We are indeed fortunate when steered to a good road by another rider. Watching Pteros video confirms how good that road is.

Love the sign.

Well done mate. A big days ride. I see Mitta Mitta is its usual bustling self. I am going to ride that road again in February on the way to the Island for the WSBKs.

Cheers

RE: Mitta Mitta-Ride - Django - 11-25-2015

So many roads I still have to ride. Don't know, where to start. Biker

RE: Mitta Mitta-Ride - Pterodactyl_imp - 11-25-2015

Django, put your winter woollies on and take a slow and easy in the Bernkastel-Kues, Saarbrüken, Mainz triangle. Stop the night somewhere warm and cosy and enjoy some of the region's produce. When the weather is good there is no better place to ride than in your country (and some of its neighbours). But then you are probably a bit sated by that and would enjoy a blast in some of Australia's more remote and interesting roads.

Cheers

Nice one, noroomtomove. thanks for recalling the memories of Mitta Mitta and that wonderful road. I'm looking forward to going back again one day. There was, if I recall, a very pretty girl at the petrol station ...
