Getting ready to visit LongRanger - the Ferret - 06-27-2017

Forum member Longranger threw out the offer for members to come see him, stay at his place and ride some of Colorado's spectacular mountain passes. I love mountains. I'M IN Thumbs Up Forum member and school teacher who's off for the summer Offroad was up for it too, so we decided to trailer the CB's out and take LongRanger up on his offer. Plans were made, a date was set, and all that was left was for Offroad to get his trailer set up with 2 Condor chocks for the trip. Done.

We decided to get together before the trip and take a little test tow to see how they fit on the trailer and how it towed. So yesterday we decided to meet at the Outlook restaurant on RT 62 in Leavenworth, Indiana. I rode my CB over and Offroad trailered his up. Once at the restaurant, we would have some lunch, then take a ride on Rts 62 and 66 and then come back, load up the bikes and tow them to the other side of Louisville, Kentucky where I would unload and ride home.

8 A.M. freshly washed CB (after the brown mist incident Angry)

(BTW this pic is for R4N's benefit... R4N this is as good as it gets lol)

Rt 62 .. I had heard RT 62 was a great road.. IMO it was merely an ok road

Offroad in the parking lot. The restaurant does have some spectacular views of the Ohio river from the dining room

Once done playing we test fitted the two bikes to the trailer. Fit like a charm and pulled well. Once north of Louisville we stopped at a gas station unloaded my bike and I headed for home. 347 miles round trip!

Sounds and looks like it was a great time. I'm in CO too... unfortunately not at the moment. If there are any other CO meetups and rides, I'd be interested in joining.

LOL cause it's so exciting riding 1200 miles across Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas... and back (been there done that several times)

Yea.. I remember when I was in the Army driving from Colorado to NJ. Twice actually.

It sucked in a car. But I'd rather be on a bike any day than a car if I have the choice. Other than my 12 cyl Phaeton I suppose- it would happy eat up long straight miles at very high speeds, in high comfort. I just really like riding my motorcycles.

This forum needs an emoticon for envious!

Have a great trip, fellas.

If nothing else, riding 1200 miles across the plains to get here would flat-spot your rear tire. Good decision to enjoy the A/C in the truck and save your tires for the Rockies. See you guys in three weeks. I'm looking forward to it!

Ferret, I assume you're not up for Rocky Mountain Oysters? Look it up.

Excellent! Well-organized group rides with good guys are my favorite thing to do on a bike. Really looking forward to pics and stories!

I've actually thought about the idea of a Great Plains states ride. Not through, but to. I would get waaay off the beaten path and go see all of the interesting, quaint, and quirky things I could find.

Those Great Plains actually are the rocks of a great inland sea way in the past. Ride the back roads and lots of amazing fossil sites to visit. But I understand most just super slab it as fast as possible.

Rocky Mountain Oysters...uh NO.

I know what they are. There was a Rocky Mt Oyster Festival in Montana every year when we elk hunted out there. My local friend and hunting buddy informed me as to what they were and ...uh NO!
