Glad I drove today. - Gone in 60 - 08-17-2019

In this case, my seat time was in the car. I heard a loud THUMP under the driver seat on Interstate 5 on the way to work this morning. Got to the parking garage and looked around my car but didn’t see anything. When I looked under, this steel rod had impaled my floorboard right under the seat , stuck in a few inches.

One of those “should I ride or drive” days. For once, glad I left the bike at home. I can patch a hole in my floor, not in my leg!

Wow

Terrible! I had something similar happen to my car a few years ago. A messy 5-ft piece of hard aluminum wire punched right through the rear passenger footwell. Had anyone been sitting there, their foot would have been impaled.

Yikes. I ran over a piece of debris on the interstate two weeks ago in my car and lost both rear tires. They went to zero psi within seconds. Thank goodness for road hazard insurance.

Geez. Overall that truly sucks.

Guess I'll take the bone and guts of road kill any day over that.

My son and I were riding into Chicago this summer on a 4 lane bumper to bumper traffic (has to be that way in Chicago or someone will just cut in front of you to close the gap anyway so no way to hang back to have time to avoid such things).

He was leading in the center of the lane on the CB, ran over a hubcap. Sent it flying back towards me like a frisbee, curves and glanced off a couple of fingers.

Thank goodness it was a plastic hubcap. I can't say I've ever in 45 years of riding/driving seen a hubcap laying in the middle of the road.

I have had close calls of tractor trailer tire steel belt and rubber debris fly up in the air at freeway speed, but the worse thing to ever strike me was a bird.

I was following a landscaping truck on I-75 in my car when suddenly a long-handled shovel launched straight up out of a vertical storage rack. It started tumbling end-over-end on a trajectory for my windshield. I instantly accelerated and in my rear view mirror I saw it slam into the road shovel end first.

Back in the early 70's, I was following a heavily loaded logging truck on my R/75 BMW. The load looked suspect to me so I increased my following distance and moments later several 40' logs came off the truck, rolling across both lanes. Being observant pays off.

Glad to read you are both here to write about it.

These experiences both sound like some manipulated Russian Youtube videos.
