CB1100 in Alaska - Labrador12_imp - 07-14-2019
I trailered my bike up to Prince of Wales Island in Ak. 3000+ miles and two ferries. Got the trailer unloaded and am ready to go. Every time I head out it starts raining. POW is having a drought so I'm trying to raise the water level in the rivers by riding a tad each day. No salmon in the streams yet, I expect it's because of the low water. Hopefully the rain forest will get its act together and we can reach a happy medium so that I can get some semi warm days of riding in as well as some good flyfishing in the rain raised rivers. Nice roads, can't wait to get some serious riding and fishing in.

I made a forty odd mile run over to Klawack yesterday. What a ride. Mountains, curves, glistening Big Salt Lake. Good time. Only had three eagles soaring above me as I rode. Saw two Hardly dressers headed the other way. POW should be a biker destination, except for the whole rain forest thing. Yesterday was the first time that I haven't caught a face full of rain since I arrived on July 9th.

wow! fishing and riding a cb. you can't beat that. when the fish show up in the river take a picture of your catch and your bike.

I went fishing with a friend this past week. It was miserably hot, and I got more bites from deer flies than fish. On the very last day before he headed back to Virginia, the weather cooled. A chap at the marina took pity on us and told us about his favourite spot. I caught a good sized bass and pike within half an hour.
When I held the pike to remove the rear treble hook it kicked and slammed the front treble hook into my thumb. After releasing the fish, I tried to remove the hook but had no luck. I did have a pair of pliers to cut the rest of the lure free.
Spend two hours in the waiting room of the local hospital. Finally got so fed up, I closed my eyes, gritted my teeth and began pulling and wiggling the offending piece of hook. I could hear people around me squealing and girl in the chair beside me bolted away. The receptionist finally got up off her fat fanny and ran to fetch someone one to deal with me.
After about 5 minutes of cursing the I finally worked it free. Left a couple of bloody Kleenexes and the barbed piece of hook on her desk to let her know what I thought about their emergency service.
My fishing buddy was annoyed that the hospital did not deal with me sooner. I was more annoyed because we lost a good day of fishing.
For you fishermen in the crowd the new Berkley Choppo top-water lure is worth the money. Both of those fish hiding under lily pads slammed it with big splash when it burbled past. I have three different colours, but the Black Chrome is the one that has caught the most fish.

Fortunately not, and the left thumb is not very sore even when squeezed. I change the small band aid every day and add a little Polysporin to speed the healing.
The itchy horse fly bites are the real problem. The first one softened after being cleaned with rubbing alcohol and massaged with After Bite. But the remaining three are still lumpy. Ordinarily I wear long pants fishing, but it was so hot I wore shorts. Lesson learned.
I guess I should take back my comment that fishing is safer than motorcycling.

Sounds like you have come to grips with the situation. To bad about the hospital scene - they never seem predictable.

Wah! Just got a ticket from a Ak State Trooper. The dude sounded like he was from someplace waaay south of Alaska and his arms were covered in tatoos. The speed limit on the island is 50 mph and I may have been leaning into those mount!ain curves just a tad above that speed. I hate being lectured to by dudes that aren't as old as my bike riding history who are covered in tats that sound like they are straight out of Dixie while I'm in Ak.
