CB Santa - Gone in 60 - 12-24-2020 If you marry a Greek woman, you will never go hungry. It also means that come Christmastime, you will have a phalanx of friends and family members anxiously awaiting a plate of her famous baklava. Anyone who has tried it, even the most ardent "I don't eat sweets" people have become hooked after one bite. My wife has had so many recent health and personal challenges that most assumed that she would take the year off. So, the arrival of her little triangles of joy were appreciated that much more this year. And, this year's batch was made with walnuts and lemons provided by friends, making it more special. My boss graciously gave us this week off, and the past few days have been gorgeous, so the best way to spend my time has been to make local drop-offs. Had to strap on the big trunk to hold the little boxes of treats. This has made for the most recreational riding I've done in the past few years, and it was great to spread some joy and make some relaxing side trips along the way. Here's the SS Lane Victory in Los Angeles Harbor. I hadn't seen her for quite some time, and she's looking quite sad and in need of a paint job. If anyone here is as big a Steve McQueen fan than I am, you'll be interested to hear that the elaborate steam engine movie prop from The Sand Pebbles is located in one of the Lane Victory's cargo holds. CB Santa - tod.branko_imp - 12-24-2020 And who doesn't like baklava?? '14 CB1100 STD 5 speed RE: CB Santa - Scotty_imp - 12-24-2020 Nice story; thanks for sharing. RE: CB Santa - GoldOxide_imp - 12-24-2020 Very nice Gin60. Wish I could experience the baklava deliveries. I am sure it feels just right. RE: CB Santa - the Ferret - 12-24-2020 Nice Gesture Gone and Mrs Gone Never tried baklava, but if it's sweet I definitely would. RE: CB Santa - Cormanus - 12-24-2020 Nice one Gone in 60. Here’s hoping Mrs Gone has better health in 2021. RE: CB Santa - Houtman_imp - 12-24-2020 I worked for a short time in Greece in 1974 and love baklava ( and ouzo ! ) RE: CB Santa - Gone in 60 - 12-24-2020 Thanks, guys. Yeah, Houtman, her cousins cleaned the local liquor store out of ouzo during our wedding. RE: CB Santa - emptysea - 12-24-2020 How very generous of you both in any year, but especially this year. And the recipients must love that their treats are delivered on a two-wheeled sleigh. I love baklava. Why just last week I brought a piece with me for a winter snack on a motorcycle ride. I found myself eating baklava in my balaclava! (That never happened, but couldn’t figure out a funnier way to work both words into a story). Merry Christmas, |
