Luck CB a Lady - ymtnpoah11_imp - 11-23-2022
This evening I fired up CB Noir and took a pleasure ride.
I haven't ridden much since crashing. The bike does need work, but I've a general angst about dangerous drivers and my confidence in emergency braking and evasive maneuvers was shaken. (More returns with each ride.)
Yesterday I read from an old thread by someone selling their 1100. Today I thought about their objections while smiling and letting the CB make its case against them.
One of the most common is weight. Funny, it only feels like a heavy bike when I have to pick it up or push it. When riding, the balance is so fluid and responsive and nimble. It's such a joy to ride this thing. I love it!
I was going probably 50 mph on a straight road when BOOM!! I didn't see anything, but the front tire hit something. I felt the forks compress and a hard wheel strike, but the bike stayed mostly straight. #%!! Very curious about an unseen object that could've downed me, I circled back to find a chunk of concrete bigger than a 12" softball but smaller than a 16" Chicago ball, heavy, with much damage potential. I do declare! The weight of the CB helped us stay stable on that one. A lighter bike might not fare as well.
As it happens, luck helps confidence, too.

Wow! And for that to happen soon after a crash...un-nerving! Very glad that your CB and you stayed upright.

Glad to read nothing more serious occurred. Check your tire and rim though.
The inline mill stores a fair amount of energy-in-motion. I found it behaves well on windy days too

Glad it all turned out well. I practice emergency braking a lot more now than I did when I started. You never know when you will need it.

Was it dark by the time you hit it ? must have been, no ?
While every online and offline magazine drums how important emergency braking exercises are, I have my own thoughts, ... ride such that you don’t need it. Sounds silly ? Emergency braking on a parking - even when repeated many times - has little to do with that deer staring you in your eyes. But hey, each one his own theory, and I am glad it turned out well.

Some years ago, while riding my then bike the Yami FJR, I came around a curve on a mountain road and hit a big rock, about the size of a gallon jug, in the road. I stayed up, and the tire stayed inflated, but it put small dents in the front rim. Whie riding my Kawi Nomad, I hit a change in road level in a construction zone. Lucky I wasn't going fast, as I had seen my BIL slow down for the hazard, but it shook my eye-teeth. Gotta practice the defensive and hazard-avoidance moves constantly.

Definitely a heavyweight when moving around the garage but light on her feet when out riding.
