I went North - Hovmod_imp - 07-15-2023

On not much more than a whim, I packed my CB1100 and pointed it towards north.
I managed to go *almost* as far as possible. Seven of the eight days were spent in almost constant sunlight, it is the land of the midnight sun, after all.

First picture shows the CB at the end point of Havøysund, which is at 71 degrees north. The only spot in Norway (or anywhere in Europe, for that matter) that is farther north is the actual North Cape, which is just over on the next peninsula. Nordkapp would have added less than two hours to my ride, but I've been there before and I opted out. It just falls on the wrong side of cash grabby tourist trappy horrors. Still, it's the CAPE, so you should go there once.

I had never been to Havøysund, and not only was the road out there absolutely astonishing, the little village at the end of it was stunning, the jumbled slate geology insane, and every living thing was taking full advantage of the unusually hot summer days they had all the time while I was on the road. You really feel that this is the frontier, any form of life that makes it up here gets my respect!

I just came home last night, and all the impressions from the eight-day, 4200 km solo ride are still very much pinballing around in my head.

Is it OK if I just post some pictures without comments? Ask if you're curious, I'm just in no place to compose an essay. I still feel need to share some of it. Smile

Here you go: Northern Norway, as seen from a CB1100 in 2023.

What a treat to wake up to beautiful mc photos of your area. And on a whim, I kinda like that sort of trip planning! I enjoy plugging the names of places into google to see the layout of the land, the routes--amazing to see just how far north the 71st parallel is: equivalent of upper regions of Alaska and Canada to give it some perspective for me. One can dream of future rides that may never materialize, but great fun doing so.

Thank you, Hovmod. This is truly a treat for me today. It is very hot and dry where I live and these look so cool and beautiful.
