Have you used one of these before? I'm concerned about emergency braking situations since you have to force your throttle closed to deactivate the go-cruise.

Actually I bought this for my ST 1300 but will use it for trips on the CB as well.
Yes I had the previous model and the issue i had with it was it wouldn't hold the throttle but would slip and the bike would slow down even on a flat straight road. I will only use it in that kind of situation, flat straight, good line of vision, and out of traffic.
The throttle still closes easily with this unit. Remember though...that anytime you want to disengage the power to the rear wheel, all you have to do is pull in the clutch. The motor will rev, but with the clutch in, you are just free wheeling, there is no power going to the rear wheel. As long as the clutch is in, you can deal with any situation with the throttle as time allows. Hit the kill switch on the right hand switch assy and the motor will instantly die. You could also pull over and put down your sidestand which would kill the motor.
The new model of go-cruise has an adjustment knob so you can adjust just how tight you want it to hold. I prefer control of the throttle at all times, but there are times/situations when it is nice to rest your right hand, if only for a few seconds.
If having your throttle locked, even momentarily makes you nervous, I would not recommend that you get one.

I had Kaoko throttle locks on my last two bikes. Really nice bit of engineering. I keep meaning to see if they have one for our bikes. They aren't universal; they fit in where the bar-ends go.

I've heard the kaoko's are nice, but pricy. I had vista cruise's and another plastic one back in the day, and have had cramp busters which you hold down with the edge of your palm (which I don't really like), but you can't really let go of the right handlebar. I only use one in very specific circumstances. Lets say Im running down to the Barber Museum from Cinti. Straight down I-75 south about 500 miles. Once I get out of northern Ky, the road is straight and quiet for about 5 hours. 2 or 3 hours in, I may want to give my right hand/ wrist a rest for less than a minute. flick on the throttle lock, do a few finger flexes and hand pumps, shake your hand, and then flick it off for the rest of the ride down.
A real cruise would be nice, but like I said I rarely use cruise ( even in my car). If it came with cruise, fine I'd use it once in a while, if it was an added cost option, I'd opt not to buy it.

I read where that one would not slip but you could roll throttle off @ any setting for firmness. I'm thinking about trying one after you get well & let us kno how it works.

Not to sound like an ad for Kaoko, but you can set it for throttle friction or to lock. After a little time with it, you get used to rolling it on and off with the edge of your palm. I liked adding a bit of friction almost always, and then lock it once on the superslab.
Twisted Throttle sells them for about $80.

Thats a good price. Watched the videos you posted last night. Looks cool.
Some have felt unwanted vibration after taking off the factory bar ends. Wonder if that would be the case with the Kaoko

I have the go-cruise as well. I've briefly used it and I think it's fine. What I really like about it is you can use it from bike to bike (if you have more than one bike that is), all for one low cost. Sure it'd be nice to have a cruise control like the Goldwing, but this suffices.
