First tow ! - greekcb_imp - 06-15-2019
Hey guys , had my first tow home today in my 20 years of riding , but it was my Enfield not the Honda hehe !
Was downshifting approaching a light when I lost all power , like I hit the kill switch etc . Pushed bike off of the Main Street , checked the usuals like main fuse , battery etc. everything was ok , did as much as I could then decided to call AMA for tow . Storms were rolling in so I wanted to get back to home base and figure it out there . Anyway , started pulling things apart , found a wiring harness connector that delivers the juice unplugged ! It’s located in the headlight bucket . Not sure how it happened but it was that simple , thought I’d share my fun for the day !

Glad it worked out okay greekcb. Maybe too much strain on the connector, or it was never locked completely?
Better than a broken wire buried in a harness bundle which I had once right as wires entered the headlamp bucket.
Check for undo strain on that connector at the full steering reach left and right.

I agree and good advice.
Glad it was only a loose connection and was that easy to fix - but still a PITA to get stuck out on the road.

Thanks , its hard to tell what happened in there. The enfield community calls the headlight bucket the rats nest. I did a headlight conversion to a 7" over the way too small imported 5.75 version over the winter. My only guess is that maybe putting back a more rigid wire or another harness connector could've wedged on the little connector clip and dislodged the "click". Then maybe over the 100 ish miles i put on it so far this year it just slowly vibrated itself out. That's the idea that it was on my part, could've happened naturally somehow too, ill never know! But yeah glad it was an easy thing vs a wire shorted somewhere etc.

Yep! LOL. Its like a paint shaker. Ill have Harley guys pull up at a light and they'll just stare as my front tire bounces madly from the vibes haha. And at speed it shakes like crazy, solid motor mounts with old technology engine, so yeah lest just say it gives the real meaning to getting wrenches out every other ride or so.

Hey Empty, took an hour. AMA contacts tow guy in the area and he comes out usually within an hour or two they said. Tow company calls you once they get notified and AMA calls you every 15- 30 minutes asking status, i thought that was pretty cool. I got lucky because it was drizzling when i was out, was heading back about 2 miles from home when it broke down. Skies were getting dark, as soon as they pulled up all hell broke loose lol. Very lucky since i had no business or anything to hide in if it poured. Funny part was i had all kinds of people stopping asking bike questions and a triumph dude pulled off to see if i needed help and check it out. Pretty good entertainment when waiting haha. I kept saying, yeah its broke right now so i cant start it lol.

Yep! Been lucky over the years but its a bad feeling. Luckily it all worked out though and i feel better having roadside assistance in case it happens again, or should i say when it happens again !
