still going to play with the front forks - ohiorider_imp - 08-11-2019 Re my 2014 CB1100: I've installed softer rear shocks (Ikons) and have spent a good deal of time on the forks. I'm now down to - .80 weight springs. - Race Tech Gold valves. - OEM damper rods drill out per Race Tech. - Small bleed holes in Race Tech valve increased from 2 to 4 holes each. Bike is now very compliant over the softer bumps. Per Race Tech, the small bleed holes take care of that. Sharp edge bumps still a problem. Indicative of either too heavy a Race Tech valve spring, or too much preload on said spring, causing the valve not to open on sharp edge bumps. So, next step is to either reduce valve spring preload or re-install the lightest valve spring they offer, and increase fork oil wt to 15 or 20, per their instructions. This will offer increased rebound control without affecting compression damping. Summary. All better, but not quite there yet! This is a real education. Bob RE: still going to play with the front forks - dave - 08-11-2019 Thanks for the update Ohiorider; please keep us updated on your progress. You must have a lot of time on your hands to allow you to work on your forks like this (I am sure you enjoy it also). Dave, time on my hands I'd rather spend on anything other than trying to get the perfect (well, as good as possible) fork compliance. OTOH, I would probably have been ok with the stock suspension if I weighed 180 instead of 160, AND lived in SoCal instead of NE Ohio, where the past couple of winters have been rough on our roads. Mr brother, who departed this world in 2014, lived in DelMar for 20 years, and over the years, I've rented bikes (BMW R100R Mystic, R850R, and R1100R) and experienced some really great rides in your part of the world. Hopefully, I'm close to saying 'good enough.' I'll post again about this topic after next try. Bob still going to play with the front forks - PowerDubs_imp - 08-12-2019 Good luck!
