Ordering a K&H Seat from Samurider - Gumby 1100_imp - 07-19-2014 I'm thinking of ordering a K&H Tall Seat, but the base price is a considerable investment, and I didn't want the order to get screwed up or have to return it to Japan if it isn't correct. I've read horror stories about those who have been very specific about what they wanted in a Corbin Custom Seat, and still didn't get what they wanted. With that in mind, does Samurider have a detailed K&H "on-line" order form for all of the relevant questions? Were you asked your weight in order to provide the correct "Injection Sponge" density? Did you have to specify the inclusion of the tandem/passenger strap? For those familiar with both Corbin and K&H, which would you choose for your CB1100?, and why? (Note: Corbin can also make a "tall" version of the Chip Beck spec seat by adding more foam at no additional charge, so the Corbin would be approximately $100 less than the K&H Tall.) RE: Ordering a K&H Seat from Samurider - CB4ME_imp - 07-19-2014 First check Samurider.com's seat section. Takashi lists most of the available K&H seats. He also lists K&H's website. While in Japanese, the K&H site shows a dizzying array of seat styles and options Options include seat style, height, materials, seat color (or colors - as in 2 tone), stitching and piping colors, studs if you want them, foam density, etc. etc. etc. If you order one or more special options, K&H may throw in the grab strap for free. They did with mine. Once you've narrowed down your choices, simply send Takashi an e-mail ( contact@samurider.com ) and fire away with all your questions. Mr T should get back to you within 24 hours. I don't have any experience with Corbin seats but have a couple of K&H seats. I chose the K&H primarily due to the styles available. My K&H high approximates the style of the early CBs, is perfect for a passenger, and once broken in is comfortable for all-day rides. You and going to pay for a K&H and wait a good 5 to 6 weeks. But you are getting extraordinary quality and attention to detail and getting the exact style and features you want. The hardest part is deciding the exact set of features you want - and then waiting. RE: Ordering a K&H Seat from Samurider - NHCB_imp - 07-20-2014 I also want to order a seat. But there are so many different ones I'm not sure what to go with. I'm looking for more comfort for long rides. Are they all the same comfort wise? Just look different? I sent samurider an email but never got a reply. RE: Ordering a K&H Seat from Samurider - CB4ME_imp - 07-20-2014 I hope some other K&H owners weigh in. I'm 6'1" and was looking for a higher seat. The K&H high seat fit the bill and made a huge difference. I also have the K&H solo seat. It provides 17mm less leg room and a bit less comfortable.....but looks awesome!!! Choosing seats is a bit of a crap shoot. Everyone is different. What's comfortable for one rider is torture for another. My K&H is very firm and required several hundred miles of break-in. It may work for you. On the other hand a Corbin, modified stock seat or another brand might be the ticket. I doubt you can return a seat just because you don't find it comfortable. But you can put it up for sale on the forum - and probably lose a couple hundred bucks in the process. RE: Ordering a K&H Seat from Samurider - the Ferret - 07-20-2014 I sat on a Russell Day Long on the guys FJR that I went to West Virginia with last week. He said it was real comfortable, but I thought it felt weird with wings holding my butt cheeks up. He said it was real comfortable, but I thought it felt weird with wings holding my butt cheeks up. Those wings are both the boon and the bane of Russel Day-Long Seats. I had a sport version of their seat with smaller wings on my 2009 CBF1000 and the wings made it probably the most comfortable seat I have ever had WHILE RIDING WITH FEET ON THE PEGS. Unfortunately, the wings make it very difficult on some bikes to put your feet down comfortably without sliding forward on the seat as far as possible. Even then, the wings tended to dig into your legs. The way the wings cradle your buttocks may make them comfy, but it also discourages spirited riding, when you may need to shift your weight or position for cornering. I might consider them for another heavy cruiser with an extremely low seat, but I would never again get one for a sport-touring or standard type bike. It's reasons like this that make me think the K&H may have distinct advantages over the Corbin with its "contoured pocket". RE: Ordering a K&H Seat from Samurider - the Ferret - 07-20-2014 Hey he mentioned having to slide up against the tank at stops because the wings made it too wide in the normal seating position..and he was 6'2"! Ordering a K&H Seat from Samurider - Elipten_imp - 07-20-2014 I have maybe 500 mile on my Corbin seat so far. I can now ride for more than 1 to 1.5 hours without the pain. But for sure the pocket means it will not be easy to position oneself for spirited riding. However I am doing less of that with increasing age. If seats were free or cheaper I would like to try the K&H and the Russel, but sadly the are not. So I went with what I have experience with from before. Sadly the seat is a high risk high dollar personal fit item. Any members who find themselves in the Phoenix area can contact me and try them both back to back. I can sit forward or back on the Corbin without sliding and I like the leather. Cheers. I owned a corbin, then got a tall k&h because I wanted the height and look of a long bench seat. Samurider got the order right, and the two-tone leather was great. No need to specify strap, unless you'd like a dfrt color. Kept corbin because I was uncomfortable bouncing and sliding a bit on the k&h, whereas the corbin fits just right: firm but long-lasting comfort. It looked a bit grandmpa-ish at first, but the stitching adds flash.. |
