Report on K&N Filters - CIP57_imp - 09-26-2014 Though i might give a K&N filter a shot. I received it in the mail today and put it to a real world test. I made two passes 0-100 with the stock filter. 7.89. 7.84 Two with the K&N 7.86 7.87 Went with no snorkel K&N 7.91 My bike runs a perfect A/F ratio at about 13.2 I though a little more air may lean it out some. My bike seems to make more HP just above the 13.2 mark. So just sticking a K&N in your bike will net you 0 gains on top. To give it some credit it did feel more responsive with 1/4 throttle inputs so I'll leave it in for now. RE: Report on K&N Filters - huxley2_imp - 09-28-2014 Thanks for the report. Not really surprised. Still, they seem more substantial than paper ones. RE: Report on K&N Filters - mikedude_imp - 09-28-2014 (09-28-2014, 11:29 AM)huxley2_imp Wrote: Thanks for the report. Saved me more than $250 on my NH 750. RE: Report on K&N Filters - HikerToo_imp - 09-28-2014 I would think, IF the OEM filter was restrictive, it would first be noticed at 100% throttle/RPM, where maybe it could possibly run out of air.... RE: Report on K&N Filters - OldF7Guy_imp - 09-28-2014 No surprised either but thanks for the report and testing. Does this suggest that replacing the stock snorkel with mods such as the TSR Air Intake Funnel actually hurts performance, rather than improve it? RE: Report on K&N Filters - dlhmatt_imp - 09-29-2014 Are you running a power commander? Stock exhaust? When I set the K/N next to the OEM filter, to me, the Honda filter is a much better built unit. The OEM filter has metal ends with gaskets; the K/N has plastic ends without gaskets. The OEM has a metal shield surrounding the paper element, the K/N doesn't. The OEM has twice the pleats the K/N does. I think the OEM unit fits better in the housing too. I've got nothing against the K/N, but after comparing the two I sold mine to another member and put the OEM back in. CIP: how do you time your runs? Surely you aren't thumbing a stopwatch while riding? RE: Report on K&N Filters - Greg_imp - 09-29-2014 Here's an old thread on air intake mods. http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2860 RE: Report on K&N Filters - CIP57_imp - 09-29-2014 (09-29-2014, 03:10 AM)DGShannon_imp Wrote:(09-26-2014, 09:50 AM)CIP57_imp Wrote: Though i might give a K&N filter a shot. I think it does, but its close (09-29-2014, 05:45 AM)dlhmatt_imp Wrote: Are you running a power commander? Stock exhaust? Surely you aren't thumbing a stopwatch while riding? Spaceman, I record the runs then download them. With a stopwatch I wait until the speedo moves and click-off the run. It makes the runs about .3 faster but gives me more of an exact # for the runs. |
