flash to pass night time mod - fredkb_imp - 11-06-2014
Hello everyone. I commute on my bike to work here in Georgia. I ride in an area that is very heavily populated with deer. Now that the time has changed, I am riding home in the dark through mostly heavily wooded areas. I know the flash to pass switch turns on the high beam when you have headlight switch on low beam, has anyone made the low beam and high beam come on on high and the low beam come on as usual on low beam? The headlight is great on this bike, but I find if I am on low beam and hold in the flash to pass switch at night, it is even better. Any comments on how to combine high and low, and how many watts of power would be used, and if it would be safe on the wiring to have high and low on together. Thanks for any input.

You would be running 115W 60 Hi & 55 L which would be less than running heated gear. If the wiring can handle the load for extended periods i don't see a problem with the electrical system.

I'm not sure, if the socket and the bulb could handle this for longer time. I don't think, it was made for this.

It's not like doing it in a car with separate hi/low bulbs. Doing it with this headlight setup would most definitely overheat something, if not everything. I wouldn't do it, or advise trying it because even though it's not putting a strain on the wiring, the excess heat from the extra filament being lit would cause problems in short order I would think.

I also live in an area that has a high deer population and although Im a new cb owner and my bike is in storage-this very topic is of interest to me as I will be facing this very issue come spring.
I wonder what fellow riders thoughts are on the addition of fog lights for night riding?

what I like about it- is that it doesn't seem to affect the general look of the bike too much. But does it work well is another story?

I always wondered why the flash to pass doesn't work with the high beam on. Like if you are riding with the high beam on the flash button should turn on the low beams.

Well it sort of does. If you look closely at the headlight with the high beam on and hit the flash to pass it will actually get a little brighter, but no significantly enough to make it noticeable when moving.

Stumbled across a thread this morning talking about this bulb (http://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/H7-2400-lumen-LED-Headlight-bulb_p_86.html) which got me thinking about LED bulbs.
Appears that our bikes need an H4 mounting, which I presume would mean this one... (http://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/3600-Lumen-H4-H6M-LED-Headlight-bulb-_p_83.html).
