Throttle cable replacement... - Chucky_imp - 11-01-2014

I was attempting a modification to the throttle cable tube/guide up by the throttle. As a result of a handlebar/mirror modification I needed to improve the bend/radius of the tube to allow the throttle to move freely when the handlebars were turned past 2/3 to the right. The bike is a 2014 standard and there may be small differences with the throttle cables...? While trying to bend the upper tube slightly to alleviate the radius I broke off the long adjustment nut next to the small lock nut. It was a stupid mistake.

It looks like I'll need to replace the entire cable. The Honda cable(s) will work fine IF I can get the tube(s) with less of a bend. Is there an aftermarket option where I can specify that radius for a custom application? I know it would be easier to go back to stock bars and stock cables, but the new riding position is much better for my height. The factory bars had me in a position for my butt going numb quickly. I used the Honda CB500F bars and really like them. I want to stay committed to the new riding position as it is comfortable for me. Besides, the damage is done now and I want to move forward. Thanks for any input.
I was thinking of ordering the cables for a 2013. I will need to find out if the lengths are the same as a 2014 model. The key to them working would be if the bend of the throttle tubes was less than the 2014 models. If they turn out to be the same part it won't matter and I can use a small tubing bender to adjust prior to install. Custom throttle cables would be the alternative.

It turns out that the throttle cables ARE different part numbers for the 2013 and 2014 bikes. I ordered the 2014 cables and will use an appropriate tubing bender to slightly lessen the bend from roughly 90 degrees to around 60 degrees. That will eliminate the cable sticking/binding issue. I will keep posting about any issues that arise during the mod.

Give Motion Pro a call. They make custom cables for all kinds of applications and have been around forever.
