RE: 8000 miles, did your valves REALLY need adjusting? - DAC - 03-31-2017 Thanks kvdv. That is indeed very good news - and just what I suspected. 8000 miles, did your valves REALLY need adjusting? - Honda Lover_imp - 03-31-2017 I had my 2013 valves checked at 8k miles by my dealer last fall...same results as most on here...all within spec. The service manager also mentioned he has yet to encounter a CB1100 up to 24k miles that actually required a valve adjustment. This is a testament to build quality around our in line 4. After discussing valve adjustments in general, the service manager did mention he experienced a few of Yamaha's line of FZ/FJ bikes that required adjustments after 8k-10k miles...naturally totally different animal (triples/parallel twins) and most likely different type of riding style may be contributing factors... Not because I expect to need adjustment, but because my valve covers are starting to weep oil and need replacing. I might as well check on them while I'm already in there. RE: 8000 miles, did your valves REALLY need adjusting? - the Ferret - 04-01-2017 Keeny my valve cover gaskets are weeping a bit too. Not leaking but you see oily residue on the front corner of the top fin. I just wipe it off for now but someday it will probably need addressing. 8000 miles, did your valves REALLY need adjusting? - Honda Lover_imp - 04-02-2017 (04-01-2017, 10:14 PM)The ferret_imp Wrote: Keeny my valve cover gaskets are weeping a bit too. Hi Ferret, Out of curiosity, do you recall an estimate of your odometer when you first observed the slight weeping? Or, how may miles do you have now? Friend of mine had around 35k on a '78 CB750 and started observing similar weeping.... Good to know. We should all keep on the lookout...although it's not that unusual for an in line air cooled 4...
