RE: Confessions of a born again noob - ClassicVW_imp - 11-16-2014 I wouldn't, and didn't, choose chrome as I mentioned in a prior post. You could always do what the police do in riding school- wrap your crash bars with a length of flat fire hose. But they were made to intentionally drop the bike at, IIRC, 35MPH. RE: Confessions of a born again noob - emptysea - 11-16-2014 I don't want to belabor the point, but the damage to my bike did include damage to the engine covers, but it also included damage to the headlight cover, the handlebars, the gauge case, the muffler, the footpeg, and and both brake levers among other, smaller items. Some of those may or may not have been damaged if I had engine guards, but there was $2400 damage and about $300 of it was damage to the engine covers. I was putting in an insurance claim regardless. In my particular case, I don't think that the guards saved me anything substantial, but that's just me. engine guards are just not high on my list of priorities when it comes to safety equipment. The fact is that I shouldn't have bought engine guards...I should have spent that $200 on a second pair of boots for my son so he'd have a pair here and at school. THAT is a mistake that I shall not make again. RE: Confessions of a born again noob - Pterodactyl_imp - 11-16-2014 ^^^^^. Sounds reasonable. I don't like the look of engine guards, or Oggy knobs for that matter. If I damage the bike I'll repair it. After all, to me, it's a motorbike, not some kind of Ming vase. Are oggy knobs frame sliders? RE: Confessions of a born again noob - Pterodactyl_imp - 11-16-2014 (11-16-2014, 11:11 AM)The ferret_imp Wrote:(11-16-2014, 11:07 AM)Pterodactyl_imp Wrote: ^^^^^. Good on you! Naveed, my apologies for being slow to reply. I did my repairs on the bike and did not remove the cover. Just mask up well to prevent spray drift to other areas. Put the bike on the centre stand for the repair, unless you are lucky enough to have a raiseable bike table. My best advice - take your time, be patient and enjoy the job. It can be fun. Engine guards? - ughhhhh! Cheers |
