RE: Dremeled my side covers- what do you think? - PowerDubs_imp - 04-05-2017 It's nowhere near complete yet. Once it is done, there will be pictures. I have a lot going on... Just for fun- here is an idea of the future look of my old style bike. I even found one with a sissybar ![]() ![]() RE: Dremeled my side covers- what do you think? - aschem_imp - 04-05-2017 (04-03-2017, 11:55 AM)PowerDubs_imp Wrote: No thanks- goes against the whole old style I am shooting for- getting rid of modern stuff when I can for a more classic look..I asked Samurider if they can get the chrome ones and he said, "Thank you very much for your inquiry. OK, we can make the chrome air box covers, but are you okay these are plastic chrome, chrome plating on stock air covers. Price: 33000 Yen Shipping: 2900 Yen Total Price: 35900 Yen / approx. $330- *made-to-order: 1-2 months. Too much $$ for me but at least I know they exist. Cheers. RE: Dremeled my side covers- what do you think? - PowerDubs_imp - 04-05-2017 If they are actually chrome plated, that is not a bad price. If they are just vacuum like almost every place does due to cost and time- I might as well spray them myself. https://www.finishing.com/112/64.shtml RE: Dremeled my side covers- what do you think? - jimgl353_imp - 04-05-2017 oh cool! now I see what part you were talking about chrome for. I was incorrectly thinking you meant the side cover. RE: Dremeled my side covers- what do you think? - aschem_imp - 04-05-2017 Maybe I'll just slap some shiny stickers on em and call it a day...{:> ![]() https://www.carstickers.com/proddetail.php?prod=13109 http://fastdecals.com/shop/decal-colors-and-patterns/chrome-decals-and-stickers.html https://www.carchromedecals.com/collections/chrome-decals RE: Dremeled my side covers- what do you think? - flynrider - 04-05-2017 (04-05-2017, 12:09 AM)PowerDubs_imp Wrote: It's nowhere near complete yet. That one the one thing I didn't like on the Custom style bikes. Too weird having the grips parallel to the bike. RE: Dremeled my side covers- what do you think? - PowerDubs_imp - 04-05-2017 Bars with more pullback was one of the first modifications I made. ![]() They aren't as extreme as the bikes above though. RE: Dremeled my side covers- what do you think? - PowerDubs_imp - 04-27-2017 Honestly surprised there wasn't more interest in this.... Then buff the marks out of the black paint, clean well and clearcoat. Already planned- I just haven't got enough beer in me yet to take the grinder to my cyl head!! ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Hey Josh I love what you've done with the bike and have been planning for some time now to do these exact mods to my 2014 black std. Do you think it would be fairly easy to use the aircraft paint thinner on the side covers rather than using a dremel? Have you added chrome valve covers yet?? Dremeled my side covers- what do you think? - PowerDubs_imp - 06-01-2017 No paint thinner won't work at all for what I did. I used aircraft stripper on the valve cover and it took many applications, and a lot of elbow grease to remove the very tough factory finish. It also took a lot of scrubbing to remove the remaining bits left behind. There is no way that you would be able to do it on the side covers, if you want them like I did them. If you were going to use stripper – you would have to do the entire thing not just a section like I did. The Dremel makes it very quick and easy work. The only reason I didn't use the Dremel on the valve cover was because of all the nooks and crannies, curves. I have not yet mounted my stripped and brushed valve cover.
