RE: Counterfeit Oil Filters - michael1954 - 04-23-2021 Checked all mine and they are all real. But I have a new one for the Forum. It came in a Honda Box, has black internals, not red, but it is taller than the one shown here that are real. All mine except this tall one look just like the real filters with the 6 on the bottom. () ]https://i.imgur.com/cc4bU3F.jpg[/img] ![]() ![]() ![]() I sometimes use HiFlo, but notice it looks a lot like a K&N I tried this one and it works fine.

At one time Hi-Flo was making filters for K&N. I don't know if this is still the case or not. I'd be curious to know with the recent reports of K&Ns failing here. I've been using Hi-Flo filters on all my bikes for years (with or w/o nut) and never had a problem. I've read on two different oil/filters sights that quality is considered very good. I've read on two different oil/filters sights that quality is considered very good. I will get a lot of flak for this one, but I still use my K&N's also. I have used them for years, and never had one leak. I do not use them on the Hondas because I have so many Honda filters, or the other two brands I use. I use the K&N and Hi Flo on my Kawasaki, and use only K&N internal oil filters on my Suzukis. I do watch the K&N carefully now each time I ride because of the reported failures here, but still not a leak, yet. I like the HiFlo filters too, and have them for the Hondas also, just have not got to them yet. Guess I bought too many filters a years or so ago. I would like the Forum to check out this tall Honda Filter. The box has no English on it. The base fits fine, and it apparently has a greater capacity due to its size. RE: Counterfeit Oil Filters - Cormanus - 04-23-2021 Does the box have a part number, Michael? I do not even remember where I got it. Probably off ebay. Think it is safe? That's what I'm counting on. The picture pdedse posted is exactly like the ones I got from Revzilla. I'm going to hold off on returning them for a bit. RE: Counterfeit Oil Filters - GoldOxide_imp - 04-23-2021 These are great snap shots of oil filters folks! (maybe pair 'em up with our favourite engine oil)
RE: Counterfeit Oil Filters - Cormanus - 04-23-2021 I’d hang on a bit, Rick and see what other research reveals. Michael, who’d know whether that was OEM? RE: Counterfeit Oil Filters - 2017EX_imp - 04-24-2021 Since the initial posting of the 1000RR Forum link on this subject, it has been a learning curve that I would not have thought about previously. We know that the D01, and likely the D02 have been knocked off. The D01 knock off is easy to spot, but not so the D02 because genuine Honda D02 filters are now being made in China. The D01 is ROKI parts assembled in the U.S., but the D02 WAKO ( labeled WAFTEC, a subsidiary of WAKO?) is made in China. As others have pointed out, a D02 made in China is not necessarily a knock off as a result. I guess the only way then to be relatively certain that a D02 is not a knock off, is to get it from a Honda dealer that gets its parts directly from Honda. Yesterday I went to my local dealer and talked with the parts manager who said he only gets his parts direct from Honda. All of his D01s were gone and all he had in stock was D02. I bought one out of curiosity, price $13.99 plus tax. Back at home, I called around to other dealers in my area, listed on " find a dealer " at https://powersports.honda.com/?cid=main_reprise/google/Brand_Core_Exact/Website/hondapowersports%20com&gclid=97b1912c098d11d63546f1a861184487&gclsrc=3p.ds I found an off the beaten path small Honda dealership that still had D01s in stock. Today I went there and bought 5 D01s. They still have 8 more in stock and will ship for those not in the Dallas Fort Worth area, talk to Erica. https://www.ftworthmotorsports.com/default.asp?page=xallinventory#page=xallinventory&make=honda If your local dealer does not have D01, the parts guy can do a locator for them for all other Honda dealers in the area. Once the remaining D01s on dealer shelves are gone, the only game in town other than aftermarket, will be the Chinese made D02, unless there is another manufacturer change. Taking a page from peterbaron's book, I am now set for a long time to come with plenty of D01 filters. The genuine Honda Chinese made D02s might be just fine, but I prefer to avoid Chinese made products whenever it is possible to do so. RE: Counterfeit Oil Filters - Rocky_imp - 04-24-2021 The filters I bought are D01. The dealer only had four so I bought all four. I have two Hondas so they will only last a couple of years. |
