If I was buying a bike to cruise at 90 MPH no problem I'm not sure a classic roadster would of been my first choice. I had a small PUIG screen on my EX for a day and I could very easily sit at 90 MPH from a stability and vibration stance but I wouldn't want to, the wind noise on the helmet was maddening. It's what sports tourers, tourers and adventure bikes are made for. RE: New owner... Vibrations.. It's what sports tourers, tourers and adventure bikes are made for. I actually made a fairing that fits on any classic roadster and gives me stability and zero wind buffeting up to and above 90mph. And perfectly suits my pillion too. I used it at 90mph all day on freeways for 10+ years on a guzzi police bike and over hundreds of thousands of miles, so with all due respect, may we agree to disagree? I bought the bike to be able to do many things, from country lanes to 90mph cruising if need be. My point is that I'm surprised that the bike can't seem to handle it due to it's very unfortunate rough spot which is 2000 rpms wide!!! RE: New owner... Vibrations.. And a question - lazz_imp - 06-30-2021 FINAL UPDATE Well, my adventure with the CB1100EX has come to a close.... Dealer took the bike back, I took a hit on the price and I'll consider it as an expensive lesson. I'd like to thank all you guys for your helpful comments during my brief stay. This forum seems like a collection of polite and thoughtful people and I'm truly grateful. I really thought that the Honda could be a real thoroughbred but was quite disappointed. I put 80,000 miles on my last 'retro roadster', or as I would call it a 'standard motorbike'... much of it exploring all over Europe, but she was equally happy in the city and everything in between. By way of a parting comment, I would just like to repeat my surprise that a motor that seems to have such a wide rough spot could be so pleasing to so many of you. For example the Ducati scrambler, triumph bonnie, guzzi V7, BMW r9T all offer a very tractable engine from 2.5k to redline.... I was really shocked once I got past the break in mileage to discover that 4k to 5k was so comparatively rough on the Honda. So... if you ever get a chance to try any of those models you might be pleasantly surprised. Anyway, thanks again, I just rebuilt my old 80,000 + Guzzi and I'll be riding off again wondering about the strangeness of the modern world where the triumphs are smooth and the hondas vibe your hands off!!! If I see any of you on your fine looking machines I'll give you a big wave Over and out! Cheers RE: New owner... Vibrations.. And a question - the Ferret - 06-30-2021 Too bad lazz, but life is too short to put up with a motorcycle that you don't like. On a side note I owned a T-100 Bonnie, have ridden my brothers T-120 Bonnie, my nephews V7 111, plus my sons Ducati 696 Monster, and rented a BMW R1200R for 9 days on a European trip and much prefer my CB 1100 over all of them. Hope you find something that pleases you. RE: New owner... Vibrations.. I certainly wouldn't find an experience such as yours pleasing if my CB1100 exhibited the same characteristics nor would I again step foot in a dealer that shrugged me off over such a matter. I'm guessing that they'll happily sell the bike to someone else, then it will become their problem. While my CB1100 does vibrate (as does anything else I've ever owned with an internal combustion engine), I've never experienced any real problems with it and definitely no sort of hand numbness. I really hope you have better luck with your next ride. RE: New owner... Vibrations.. And a question - Houtman_imp - 06-30-2021 I know that you consider your self a citizen of the world but if you ever come to my part of the world (NC USA ) you can ride my CB 1100's and see if you feel that they vibrate. I feel little to NONE ! RE: New owner... Vibrations.. And a question - pdedse - 06-30-2021 (06-30-2021, 07:25 AM)lazz_imp Wrote: FINAL UPDATE Strange. I've never experienced obvious vibration / buzziness on either my '14 standard nor my current '17EX. Just now went for a ride and tried to stay between 4-5k rpm (3rd / 4th gears) for a few miles and nothing annoying at all...just higher rpm. I hope your next bike suits you better. RE: New owner... Vibrations.. And a question - rboe - 06-30-2021 Time to move on (I'm pretty sure the problem was unique to your machine, in any event, it was not a good fit for you so good riddance). Keep us in mind when you find a replacement. I'd be very keen on knowing what you get. The Yamaha Tracer 900 GT just got on my radar and if went that route I'd be VERY keen on your impressions. RE: New owner... Vibrations.. And a question - GoldOxide_imp - 06-30-2021 To bad the CB1100 experience didn't work for you lazz. I don't recall anything of the sort that you describe. If I did, I wouldn't likely be a Forum member as the bike would have been ejected very early. I've ridden the T100 Bonneville and Guzzi V7 and I personally found those much rougher than the CB, but I knew these were twins, and of course innate in character. May the journey continue! - ride safely. |
