Looks like a fun project! Cool bike

Just curious about the weight difference. The new LED headlight is actually slightly heavier.

Installed the new taillight and turn signals on the rear fender.

The taillight is a cheap one off Ebay that looks like the XR600 taillight but dual element bulb. Eventually I'll find an LED bulb that fits the housing. The 1157 replacements I have do not fit.

Turn signals are cheap flush mount LEDs

More progress, battery relocated under the seat. Assembled the last few bits. Only a valve adjustment at from being ready to start now.

How exciting! You should video first startup and post so we can hear that sweet sound...fingers crossed. : )

That is a sharp-looking rebuild. Congrats on the skills and space to do that. Start it up!

RE: XR650L - rboe - 07-09-2020

There is enough room under the seat to squeak that battery in there?!

Close to it, need to go into town and buy a feeler gauge set today to set the valve clearance first. Then it will get started.

Yes, requires a little trimming but not bad.

Tonight I reinstalled the wheels and finished up the wiring with a diode for the turn signal indicator to get the LEDs functional.

Looks I skipped a few details... I had the bike running about a year ago and forgot to check tire pressure before heading out on a test ride. Needless to say, a trail side tire repair was in order. After I arrived at home, I promptly ordered a tubliss kit for it. It took a couple months to get around to installing that kit, then they leaked overnight. It took a few more months to get them pulled and dropped off with a friend who helped get them resealed.

I was just thinking about your rebuild the other day as I was pouring over a WA state map, looking for routes. Good to see it has come to life.
