RE: Rough ride and night last night. - the Ferret - 01-26-2017 Well, since this was my first experience with this, there were definite signs that could help someone else. The pain in the left side of the back. (guess it could be right side too, but it was definitly on one side for me). The sweating was immediate and obvious, and the feeling of nausea. I told Salesman Steve I thought I was going into shock, because other than the back pain the symptoms are the same. To his credit he offered me his car (a Lexus SUV) to drive home and said he would bring my bike to the house later, but I had no idea how much trouble I was really in and declined. Had I waited just a few more minutes before trying to head home home, I wouldn't have been able to even climb on the bike. Then the problem would have been dealt with, with an ambulance ride I'm sure. The pain was like I said excruciating. It felt like someone was jabbing me in the left side of my back with an ice pick and twisting it around or something over and over. And a full bladder that CAN NOT be relieved is a terrible pain in itself. At one point in the hospital one of the nurses asked if I thought I could go, and I told her I'd been trying to go in my pants for the last hour and a half.I didn't care, would have preferred, to wet myself, than to be denied like I was. It feels like it's going to explode out of you, but it just won't start. Maddening. I have described Gout as someone pounding on your big toe with a sledge hammer for a day, then pounding on it with a hammer for a couple of days, then just being broken for a couple of days. Different but equal amounts of pain, but the gout definitly lasted a lot longer. I know I couldn't ride a motorcycle with gout because you couldn't shift or brake depending on the foot. Heck I couldn't even stand a sheet touching my toe when I had gout and had to sleep with that foot out from under the covers. Thankfully I haven't had a bout of that in years (knock on wood) I've felt pretty good today and got in a nice 39 mile ride (partially in a hail storm lol). Snow coming tonight so may be off the bike for a few days. Booo Rough ride and night last night. - Pauley - 01-26-2017 I just picked up on this thread. Glad you made it to safety and got medical attention, Ferret. You had the angels guiding you home! RE: Rough ride and night last night. - Rolls_imp - 01-26-2017 ^^ What Pauly said! RE: Rough ride and night last night. - kballowe_imp - 01-27-2017 I have had the kidney stone experience. Several times. I don't have anything to add. I think it's all been said. Glad that you're in one piece, recovered - and no marks (that show) RE: Rough ride and night last night. - silverbub_imp - 01-27-2017 1 in 10 will have the "experience", eh?... since you have had the episode... guess 9 of us are "safe" ...for awhile at least!... seriously,... glad for you that you are "passed" the episode & that you might want to now prepare your tea cup alongside a shot of apple cider vinegar...& you were lucky to not have a downed bike on your ride home!... thanks for sharing... cringed in sympathy regarding the pain!!! RE: Rough ride and night last night. - the Ferret - 01-27-2017 A couple people have mentioned this apple cider vinegar, but I find no evidence on the web of any suggestion as a prevention or cure. I know I'm not supposed to eat rhubarb or sardines anymore ( actually never did) and also soda and artificial sweeteners (never drank much of them) avoid salt, bananas, raisins, cantaloupe, potatoes, tomatoes, red meat, green leafy vegetables and dairy products (ok...so what's left?) oh and don't smoke ( I never have.. I also don't drink alcohol). I am drinking more water and lemonade and less tea, but not sure how long I can keep that up lol. RE: Rough ride and night last night. - Desert viper_imp - 01-27-2017 Mickey type these words into a google search: apple cider vinegar and kidney stones Rough ride and night last night. - Elipten_imp - 01-27-2017 The coke and vinegar fluid treatments don't work. I have a friend that has tried it all to no avail. No peanuts also Mickey. I have a list from my urologist if you wish. Water, lots of water. Stay hydrated Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk RE: Rough ride and night last night. - the Ferret - 01-27-2017 This is turning into a bummer. I am pretty limited in my eating anyway. Not a lot of things I can cut out and still cover a plate lol RE: Rough ride and night last night. - Frulk_imp - 01-27-2017 From Ferret: "I know I'm not supposed to eat rhubarb or sardines anymore ( actually never did) and also soda and artificial sweeteners (never drank much of them) avoid salt, bananas, raisins, cantaloupe, potatoes, tomatoes, red meat, green leafy vegetables and dairy products (ok...so what's left?) oh and don't smoke ( I never have.. BUT, if I had to give up the majority in your comment above ( which I haven't) I'd be willing to tolerate an episode every 5 to 10 years as the result of refusal to do it. On the same topic. Good friend passed a kidney stone on a remote multi day backpacking trip in the Wyoming Wind Rivers Mountains 2 years or so ago. Began in the afternoon and abated just as his son was going to trek out the next morning solo for help from approx 18 miles in. Darn funny story to hear him tell it with color commentary. |
