We went through all these debates when the cameras were being trialled and then installed. I think you misunderstood my reply. Yes they all get tickets, but those that are not paying attention are in a different mindset than those just "trying to beat the light". And we have more protections from unjust laws than you do in the UK. Our constitution makes sure that due process is applied to any legal action, no matter the intent behind the law. RE: Brits To Tackle Loud Exhaust Pipes With Noise Cameras - rboe - 06-10-2019 No law, sign, fine or mean looking nun with a ruler is going to prevent someone from doing something stupid. Yet contrary to this "common sense" logic are books upon libraries of laws meant to keep such stupid things from happening with no end in sight to such madness. Why? Because when you start to hold people responsible they will, for the most part, behave. If you read up on some statistics books you'll see that we can't afford 100% compliance with anything; but if you can get to 80-90% then that is good enough. Besides; without this enforcement - and just speaking about traffic laws here - you'll end up with a LOT of road rage as folks decide to do their own problem solving. With the exception of some small towns with a corrupt government; it has never been about the money. Otherwise you could just go buy a speeding stamp and do what you want. There are no consequences in NC for people ignoring traffic lights and signs. Very few people in NC use their indicators and if they are on they could be left on by a previous owner of the car. RE: Brits To Tackle Loud Exhaust Pipes With Noise Cameras - LongRanger_imp - 06-10-2019 I'm all for enforcing the laws we have, and if that means traffic cameras, so be it. Otherwise, why bother with laws in the first place? RE: Brits To Tackle Loud Exhaust Pipes With Noise Cameras - Cormanus - 06-10-2019 Thank you, LR. That puts more succinctly than I could have said what I’ve been thinking. RE: Brits To Tackle Loud Exhaust Pipes With Noise Cameras - GoldOxide_imp - 06-10-2019 Again, if "red light" cameras is about money collection, then they wouldn't waste time setting up decoy systems. It is about changing behaviour to increase the probability of safety. Anything else simply costs more money. Money to process the incidents, money for emergency services when accidents occurs, money for hospitalization, money for insurance, money for lack of insurance, money for funerals, money for a replacement vehicle, money for divorce. Hmm, maybe it is about the money.
