Pretty excited despite it being 9 months in the future. Also going to ride a rental in Maui in just about 4 weeks. That trip opens up the opportunity for me to hit all 50 US states before I give up the 2-wheeled life.

Yes, it's so excellent, they don't feel the need to include the E in the word, which is ironic given our Yankee propensity toward removing superfluous vowels in the American spelling of English words. They have an itinerary posted on the page I linked and I think it mentions "whisky" at least 4 times. It did not mention haggis, though, and it is on my list to try there. When in Rome.... except if I were going to Rome, it would be pasta.
I believe I'll be on a F750GS with Cheryl on the lowered version of same. However, I may have upgraded to the 850 because the extra $100 didn't seem too bad. Did not like the idea of paying $700+ more for the 1250GS and then having to hop on a bike that's like twice as tall (I may be exaggerating) than my CB1100 for the first time... in a foreign land.. on the 'wrong' side of the road... in front of both friends and strangers.

The worst part for me, was on a bike it was so easy to forget which side of the road I needed to be on. I love the roundabouts, but, again, coming out of them can get you on the wrong side of the road real fast. In a car, the steering wheel and driver seat position help, but you don't have that advantage on a bike. Beautiful place. You will love it. Don't wear a kilt when riding a motorcycle.

Very wise decision, stay with a simple bike in a foreign country.

I looked at the itinerary and thought it looked great. I've had some very happy times around Pitlochry and a little further north. My step daughter now lives a little east of Inverness. I've not yet visited but am looking forward to it, probably sometime this year. Maybe one time I go, I'll hire a bike in Inverness and ride the NC500 part of which may be on your tour.
Good choice with the bike, I reckon. Light and nimble is a good plan on many of the roads there.

Scotch whisky and Irish whiskey aren’t only differentiated by their spellings. Which is interesting because, while most Canadian whisky has some rye in it, Canada does not require rye to be included in the mash bill in order for the spirit to be called "Canadian Whisky". In fact, as I understand it, a Canadian distiller can label the spirit "Rye" with only a very small amount of rye (10% or maybe lower) in the mash bill. That differs from US rye whiskey which must contain 51% rye.
As for Scotch and Tev's comments, I know more about American whiskies than I do about Scotch (or Irish Whiskey for that matter), but I am partial to the Islay whiskies, my favorite being Lagavulin (16 when I have the $$ for it). I'm hoping to do a reasonable amount of comparison tasting while in Scotland and Ireland.
