RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Gone in 60 - 07-03-2024 Heck, I can just roll my CB backwards ten feet out of my shop door into my freight loading area. I have two No Parking signs posted. The neighboring business is a fencing school, and sometimes their more "entitled" students park back there. I politely ask them to move. If they get uppity, I cheerfully tell them that I'll take care of it for them with my forklift. That gets action. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Tev62 - 07-04-2024 Here is my (non) entry just to get the ball rolling. I've mentioned this place before. It is a Folly, built in the times of the Irish Famine. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Gone in 60 - 07-04-2024 So, basically an architectural doo-dad? I dunno... keeping busy keeps your mind off being hungry. I've found that out during my intermittent fasting. "Hey guys, I know you're starving, but if you build a really neato wall in the middle of this field with a hole in the middle for a road, it will make you forget how hungry you are. How 'bout it?" Its intention was to generate jobs and employ a bunch of labourers and crafts to give them a wage to be able to afford alternative food sources. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Gone in 60 - 07-09-2024 Sort of like the U.S. during the 30s. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Gone in 60 - 07-11-2024 Just rolled her out of the shop in front of my load door. This is the "get off my lawn" area. I'm trying to keep students from the next door fencing school from parking and hanging out here, blocking my loading area (last time, they were Larping... dressed like characters from Lord of the Rings, swinging at watermelons with big swords. I don't need that mess behind my shop.) There's also a concert hall across the street, and I'm trying to keep drunk concert-goers from using this area as a place to pee and mash out their cigarettes before they stagger back to their cars. Last time someone parked here, I positioned my forklift next to the car with the forks just about to slide under it. I found the owner and asked if he wanted to move it or should I? Hasn't happened since. And if you're going to a concert across the street, don't park anywhere you'd like. There's one part of our lot where they will take ten bucks from you for the priviledge. Park anywhere else in the area and see what happens. Sometimes they tow. Sometimes the security guy who checks just sleeps in his Corolla. And there's IKEA just down the street. Huge parking lot. You could land a Cessna on it. You'd think they wouldn't mind if I parked a few semi-operational project cars on it, way back in the corner. But no... I got nasty-grams under the wipers and then they put these "Park only while shopping" signs up. I guess if they let one guy do it, they have to let everyone do it... Just going for Starbucks? Well, don't park here! This is our lot! I guess one of the best perks of getting elected to the city council is primo downtown parking. And speaking of which, I sure hope the local whackadoo remembers to move his rolling manifesto before Wednesday at 11:00, or he'll get a street sweeping ticket. Can't tell if he's living in the Beetle, most of the posters condemning the mayor, the police department and the city council are blocking the windows. There are some residential areas in L.A. where you need to study the street signs for at least five minutes to determine whether or not you'll be ticked for parking there. But, our town has some head-scratchers too. I've spent plenty of dough at the local bike shop, and man do they protect their parking lot. Very cool place with a dizzing array of different bikes and accessories. But the old man who used to run it was really interesting. Known for being a very keen WWII conspiracy expert. He's passed on, but family (best I can tell) still runs the shop. Last time he helped me, I asked for an inner tube, and he replied with "You know that Patton's car crash was no accident, right? Total setup." Residents near the local college started getting testy about the students who spent their parking pass money on boba and ramen and started parking in front of their period-correct bungalows and craftsmans. Don't have a resident parking sticker on this street? They'll ticket your student-mobile. That'll cost a week's worth of boutique ice cream at that place that just opened up. Homeless guys. Don't try to hide your rolling apartments down this alley. Can't leave 'em overnight on this side street either. Or in the park. Keep 'em moving.
