According to Spot he's making his way across Oklahoma on I-40. Good road choice for that area.
Don't be in too much of a hurry, Django. You don't want to catch up with that large, slow moving line of thunderstorms that are a few hundred miles east of you.

If you ever happen to be in that area, ride the scenic bypass highway 12 to Trinidad. It's well worth it if you like scenic and twisties.

In Germany we have a saying, if you are in the middle of nowhere, you are in "Pampa". Here we are:

Yesterday was highway day, riding thru those little morbid towns, partly abandoned. After staying the night at the KOA near Elk City, today was Interstate day and the Ozarks in the afternoon.
Near Oklahoma City the traffic get more crowded.

The Ozarks I really like! Lots of twisties and no speed limit beside the 55 miles. Arkansas seems not to pamper the traffic like they do in Colorado.

Not sure that Kingston has ever seen better times.
Interesting probably only to myself, I’ve gassed up in Kingston three times on three different trips to that area.
There are some great roads right around you. Hope you get to experience them.

Just no idea how much open country there still is, what's it like on those endless perfect straight roads?

Those big, open, straight roads are almost 'motorways'! The Ozark twisties - much better.
But with such vast distances to cover in the US, I can't imagine travelling on twisties all the way!
It takes me five hours to travel from SW England to Manchester in the North...!!

Django, enjoy your US-trip, stay tuned and find interesting roads to travel. Highways are always after a while sort of boring but often one has no other choice than to ride a long distance from A to B within an acceptable amount of time.
When reading your explanation of 'Pampa' another German word comes to my mind 'Walachei'. Could be used for the same scenery, if you want so, as Herrendorf did in his book 'Tschik'.
