The "wrong one" looks exactly like their online version and is the last photo in the string with all the tuck-and-roll stitching etc... But they did delete the hidden mount for the backrest and its accompanying flap which covers it when not in use. The person who took my order also got everything just right, all the instructions were correct and spelled out right there on the shipping invoice, and she was exasperated that they missed the instructions.
Maybe they'll run a special discount on seats without backrests...
I know they began making the replacement back on the 11th which has been two weeks now, so based on the first seat's turnaround, I would expect a package on my doorstep within a week from now.
It's supposed to rain for the next 7 days so no worries!

Here it is the 15th of April and I finally received notice Corbin is shipping the replacement. I expect it later this week.
I will be very anxious to get it as the weather here in Oregon has been super lately and I've been putting some miles on the CB. The seat seems to be the weak link as far as rides of any distance go.

I was thinking about you today....it's been 3 weeks since fed ex picked mine up to send back to california, I live about 4 days shipping time away, I woulda thought they would have prioritize us since they screwed ours up, but I guess not

Seat arrived yesterday and was correct this time. I heeded some advice I had seen somewhere about the latch perhaps being a bit tight and added a two small washers under the attachment on the seat that hooks down into the latch. Seat latches in and unlatches perfectly. This is also the first Corbin I've ever had that has a plastic seat base. Normally, they've been metal and the entire seat has been very heavy. This one is not, and weighs about the same as the stocker.
I have not ridden it yet, but did sit on it in the garage and there is a noticeable pocket where you sit which feels wide and comfortable. The passenger area is also about 1/2 wider on each side up top with a modest cupped area for the occasional passenger.
I am very happy with it so far. Not sure why it took a full five weeks to make the replacement when the original came in half that time, but at least they made it right.

Chip, how is your Corbin holding up? I called them a few weeks ago to ask some questions about custom options and asked about deleting the tuck and roll as you did. They recommended against it because they said there is a greater chance that the leather will get wavy from stretching and breaking in. I was curious if you have seen any deformity in the leather. Thanks.

Mine has held up fine in the 9 months since i've had it, but that's only been about 1000 miles. I guess time will tell.
I am now actually considering getting another one WITH the backrest option instead of deleting it. I seriously thought Honda or someone else would have come up with some sort of bolt on back rest by now. But after having the bike for a year and half, I know that my wife will only be a passenger on a few occasions and I would not want to mount and dismount a rack/rest every time anyway. UNLESS it were as easy as it is with Corbin seats which I have had on other bikes. One allen wrench, slide in the back rest, tighten it down, and go. I know the little cloth flap to cover the hole will be slightly bothersome when the rest is not installed, but at this point I still think this may be the best solution for the occasional passenger. A happy wife makes a happy life. If I go that route, I will sell my existing corbin via this forum. I won't pull the trigger until spring though.

I happen to prefer the look of the corbin standard seat it gives a touch of class to the bike and feels good to me .

My Chip Beck Spec Corbin seat is now over a year old with a lot of miles on it. The seat is perfect and is very comfortable. I have had many Corbin seats built for me over the years for several different brands of motorcycles. None of them have had tuck and roll stitching. The vast majority of the standard seats that Corbin makes do not utilize tuck and roll stitching either. When I ordered my seat Corbin didn't say anything about tuck and roll stitching making the seat more durable, and they were happy to make it to my specifications. I can't say for sure but I believe Corbin says that because they don't want to be building custom seats and it's easier to sell the standard model that they have in stock.
In any event, there are a bunch of Chip Beck Spec CB1100 Corbin seats out there and none of them have had any problems whatsoever. The Corbin seat on my Ducati Monster did not have tuck and roll stitching and it was still perfect after six years of use. If tuck and roll stitching is necessary for seat durability, then why do the vast majority of Corbin seats not have it?
The bottom line is that after a year and a half and a lot of use and miles my seat looks exactly like the day it came out of the box. All the best.
