hellfire vs plexistar 2 windshields - Cormanus - 10-18-2019

I don’t think you’ll need a coat hanger, Chuckk. My recollection is that threading easy with a ver small lift. You shouldn’t have to remove the breather.

I would guess around 20 times a season.. the question that you aren't asking is, what are the average temps in the mountains where I ride in the winter months at 3000 to 5000 feet.. thats where my handy-dandy thermometer comes in.. there is a difference in temps of about 20 to 30 degrees when I go on my rides.. sometimes even in the summer.. at the place we call the 5000 foot overlook, winter temps are usually 40* to 46* .. there are times when I wear my heated gear, but never turn it on.. the system I have made makes it almost effortless to plug and play my heated gear.. when I first bought my Gerbing heated gear, I didn't use it much.. it was such a pain to wire it up.. you know, running a "Y" harness up your back and down your sleeves to connect your gloves to your vest, then plug the vest into the side cover of the bike.. so I spent quite a bit of time, making parts and controller boxes.. it was time well spent.. now I reap the rewards..

Ah ya, those mountains. What are those? Huh Things we call mountains around here are probably speed bumps to you.

Good job Chuckk, your previous experience with many bikes pays back now Thumbs Up

looks kinda chilly to me.. I go over this pass (the 5000 ft. overlook) every time I ride.. it is about 45 miles into the loop I take. sometime a 130 mile loop, sometimes over 200 miles.. the 200 mile loop takes me up to 6000 to 8000 feet.. in mid winter, I limit my 200 milers because of ice at the higher elevations.. my feelings toward the cinders they lay down are mixed.. when there is ice and snow, they are welcome.. when the road dries out, but the cinders remain, they become slippery.. I like to flirt with the danger of ice and snow and the beautiful scenery is also rewarding.. but I am getting older and any falls now might end my riding.. (hopefully not).. plus the fact I would hurt my C.B.. I have sold a few of my bikes because I have crashed them.. I have always repaired them, but they are never quite the same..

well, where do I start... thanks guys for your input on running that iPhone charging cable under my tank.. I did that work today and it was pretty easy.. I just put a small block of 2x4 under the rear of the tank to see what I needed to do..I will have to borrow my friends camera, to take pics of my camera mounted in place.. after all the wiring was done I realized, now that I have that power source for the phone, all sorts of options lay before me.. talk about gizmos !! .. how many apps do I want to download.. I now have an altimeter.. plus another CLOCK !!.. haha what is neat though, I can now read my tire temps and pressures as I ride and as the tires heat up.. how cool is that..

too much wind resistance .. haha ..

RE: hellfire vs plexistar 2 windshields - peterbaron - 10-19-2019

Chuckk, your pics, description, comments and comparison make me thinking of replacing my Street Shield Ex with Plexistar 2.
I wanted a bit higher shield and nice hand deflectors by NC or/and heated grips...so may killed three birds by one shot...
I can always reinstall SS Ex for summer or local rides within minutes...Dodgy
Any excessive buffering with P2 at higher speeds?

RE: hellfire vs plexistar 2 windshields - Chuckk_imp - 10-19-2019

I prefer heated gloves over grips.. one needs heat on the leading edge of your gloves.. the first pair of heated gloves I bought were tour masters.. there was no heat in the thumbs.. my gerbing glyde ones have that micro wire technology .. it really seems to work.. they heat up faster and the thumbs get hot also .. but with the plexistar 2, heated grips might do it for you.. how cold does it get when you still ride your bike .. how close are you to the North Pole ? .. haha ..

chuckk ..

p.s.. gerbing also has heated gloves that use a self contained battery source.. I don't know too much about them ..
regarding wind protection.. the wind shadow, if we can call it that, seems just right.. you have seen me behind my plexistar and may have noticed my unruly beard.. anyway, when I am riding at any speed really, I don't feel any wind on my face, but I can feel my beard blowing .. if I lean out, the wind will then hit my face, as you would expect.. by leaning forward just a little, I will be even more, in that protective pocket.. when I shoot my little iPhone videos using my headset for audio, I find wind noise to be almost nothing at all.. at any speed.. other bikes I have had that system on always had wind noise.. now I am speaking of noise in my mike.. I do believe one does get a little wind noise from the windshield, but nothing to really complain about.. does any of this make any sense ..

chuckk ..

(+1) on the heated gloves with no other wind protection. Will see how that goes. I suspect better than nothing.

Chuck: A placeholder for the urine cup? Smile No, I don't mean BMW hydraulic fluid. The upshot is no additional wiring.

Love the "anti-rattle sock".
