How much better is the 650 compared to the 500? How hard are parts to find? I found a 650 custom for cheap.

Check out the cx500 forum. There's info on all the CX bikes there. http://cx500forum.com

Never owned one, but sold them. Felt the 650 was a better machine and a bit disappointed it was dropped.

EmptySea...good luck with your new acquisition. When I retire, I'd like to find an old bike to restore and play with. An old H1 or Rd would be at the top of my list. Someday...

I bought a CX500 in 1979. It was a great bike! Packed to the max and went on road trip with my passenger (now my wife). Smooth ride. Love the drive shaft. Not a speedster, but it cruised nice. Sold it when I got married to buy the ring.

Great pic. Motivation to get this one running again.

Well...the electrical system didn't fry out when I added a power source....

Engine cranks, but won't turn over. Got a fuel problem in that when I open the fuel valve, gas just pours out of the bottom of the carbs. Tightened up what I believe to be the drain screws, but that didn't really help much. Too hot outside to continue tinkering, but sort of happy that the electrical is not completely shot.

Carb floats Sea. They aren't floating. When they float they raise and shut off the fuel at the right level in the float bowl. At least I'm pretty sure that's what's happening.

The fuel is coming out of what I understand is the drain fittings at the bottom of the bowls. I guess I'm going to take an Internet course on how to rebuild a carb. Lifelong learning. Lol
