If the cap has a good seal at the base they won't short. Right away anyway.

But how do they not suck in a bunch of water?

Sat on one of the 500s today. Feet actually touched the ground. Nice little bike.

As most can tell by now, I spend a LOT of time on Youtube...

Here's a brief vid comparo for your viewing entertainment:

Here is a motovlogger I used to enjoy. He did these weekly ride videos, often aboard a new bike loaned by an area dealership. When Competition Accessories changed hands and moved to Indiana, he stopped doing videos. Competition Accessories still does videos, but it's area different person. Anyway, I like this guy's take on the 500x.

Yup... I used to watch his 'rides' every week - loved that guy.

Great video. Thanks for sharing!

Yup, watched both of those videos, myself. They, amongst a dozen or so others are what convinced me to take the leap.
Got another ride in Saturday morning in between rain storms here, and so far, my first impressions still stand. It's a lot of fun to ride, handles great, and has a lot more pick-up than I would have expected. Took a short jaunt down a dirt drive, and it felt very stable. I think the light weight helps that feeling a lot.

Anyone do a comparison ride between a Suzuki SV-650 and CB500?

RE: Honda CB500x - the_undecider_imp - 01-11-2016

The more I think about the 500x, the more I compare it to the V-strom 650. They are certainly two bikes that will be cross-shopped, but they don't directly compete. The NC700X is really a closer competitor to bikes like the V-strom, Versys, or F700GS.

What I mean is that the CB500X punches well above it's weight class. The fact that it gets compared to its larger brother (and frequently favored over the NC) and the aformentioned mid-weight adventure touring bikes. There really is no directly comparable bike available, at least in North America.

I really have been thinking about this bike a lot. I seriously considered buying one. As much as I like my V-strom, my 2nd V-strom, I sometimes wish I had bought something different just to experience something else.

Undecider....since you're in Texas, .....a vast, but mostly flat state, with interstates where average speeds are 80+mph, and never ending off pavement dirt roads.... A large ADV bike like a Vstrom/Tiger 800/S-Ten is, imo, ideally suited to our state's geography. If we're talking COLORADO or UTAH or IDAHO, yes, a lighter ADV bike is better served. But in TX, where we have long travel times, long distances to get to....Twisted Sisters, Big Bend, Hill Country, Gulf coast, and Mexico,.... one can't do any better than a Vstrom 650. So give yourself a pat in the back for having the right tool for the right job.
