Congrats mr P, nothing like a fixed problem and even better to let us know and how.
It's too late now but i just reflected a laser pointer off the side of a disk and it reflected back as a line, the difficult part was holding the wheel steady with a car-jack whilst spinning it,this works only in low light but it did show up clearly on a white background, it reads the disk as a gramophone record, if nothing else it may amuse the cats for a bit.
Not sure if it would have shown the wobble and be good enough to point out the high spot but it worked cheers.
