RE: Battery replacement - Beware aftermarket - Stichill - 02-13-2019 Well-put regarding battery life expectancy, GoldOxide. My experiences and observations are similar. I’ve also noticed that automotive batteries seem to have a useful life ofxabout three years regardless of slick marketing names or manufacturer claims. There was an unusual delay as the starter overcame the compression stroke that I wasn't used to. It never failed to crank and start, but that hesitation concerned me enough to just replace the battery rather than find myself needing a jump or transport home. Absolutely. I figure at these prices, why not just replace preemptively after three years whether the bike “needs” it or not. Inexpensive peace of mind. RE: Battery replacement - Beware aftermarket - GoldOxide_imp - 02-13-2019 Yes. Off-topic, but similarly, I keep a spare UPS gel battery in a standby UPS in case one starts to complain at home. I never seem to miss a brown or black out. RE: Battery replacement - Beware aftermarket - Stichill - 02-13-2019 ^ +1 nothing more annoying than a complaining UPS! Observation: why do they beep incessantly when there’s a power outage? I have them all over the house protecting equipment and providing backup runtime. Every time the power fails, a chorus of chirping erupts. Hey Stichill: Each UPS brand/model has varying options, however, most have the option to mute the alarm upon event, and some like the APC brand can be configured via a USB connection to mute the alarm all the time. Another alternative is to have a single master and high capacity UPS near your fuse/breaker box, however, those are much more expensive and require dedicated home wiring. But I digress. RE: Battery replacement - Beware aftermarket - Cormanus - 02-13-2019 Stichill, this is how that plan would go for me: • The rain would pour down one day and I'd think 'good time to turn the chirping off on the UPSs' • A horrendous clap of thunder would rent the air and the power would go off. • I'd fail to find the manuals I'd been careful to put somewhere I'd remember to look • Thankfully all the UPS devices would allow me to connect to the internet and search for digital copies • Unhelpfully, all the chirping would drive me bananas, diminish my concentration and leave me unable to find the digital copies of all except one of the devices • That device would need to be rebooted for the change to take effect. At that point, I'd give up, put on my wets and take the motorcycle I'd cleaned the day before for a ride. RE: Battery replacement - Beware aftermarket - GoldOxide_imp - 02-13-2019 One night a couple years ago I was watching Netflix when the power failed. The network equipment and television was on UPS, and during that 10 minutes I was the only person on the street watching TV in the house front room. The show happen to be an episode of [url=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3889094/]The Motorbike Show. (I don't think the series was successful, but was interesting enough.)
