All the CB photos I saw before it was imported showed an all-silver engine. When mine arrived with the black engine I was really disappointed. But now I really like the black, and I think it will look good longer than the silver.

The 2014 base model's blacked out look is really cool. If I had the money I'd keep the '13 100% stock and buy a base '14 to turn into a badass cafe racer.

When it comes to the engine, I like both the silver and the black with polished side covers For me its dependent on the color of the bike as it's a matter of contrast. On the darker colored bikes like the black and dark blue colors, I like the looks of the silver engine the best. With the white and silver colors I prefer the black engine with the polished side covers. The red colors work well with either of these engine finishes to my eyes.

It would be less hassle and save $. Now I think I'll just leave it off. I'm thinking it would look OK. Or, I could have the 2013 stripe put back on.

Do you guys think it would look good without a stripe? Keep in mind it will be attached to a black sidecar.

I think it would look fine either way. The beauty of having your bike repainted is that you could even choose to design your own accent stripe layout if you wanted to. In your case, I actually think that the shape of the DLX tank is going to better compliment the form of the zeppelin sidecar than the standard tank.

Yes, the shape of the tank will look good in relationship to the sidecar. And because of that, I think leaving the stripe off will look fine. Sidecar bikes get less MPG too so the larger tank is good. I may start thinking about some other type of tank graphic
Thanks!

FWIW, I like the new, darker red better, especially with the silver engine and wheels.

I'm not the world's biggest fan of red motorcycles, but that is a really nice shade of red. Have you considered painting your sidecar to match the bike instead of vice versa?

Some sidecars would look good in red, but not this one. When you see the pic some day, you'll see what I mean. It looks great in a dark color. There's something special about black and chrome!

Talking about red sidecars: Urals Parade through Sochi Olympics.

I can't believe they assembled that many Urals in one place that would run! (only kidding!) That's the most Urals EVER seen in one place I'm sure, especially red ones! The Ural has a really cool history.
FWIW, my sidecar doesn't look anything like a Ural and wouldn't look good in red (except for maybe a dark, dark red!) Thanks for posting the pic!

It's possible, but HIGHLY unlikely. They didn't have another CB to compare it to at the show, but the Honda guys said that it was a different shade..not just the lighting.

Buffalohead, the Australian models didn't have the stripe at all. Here's a photo of my black CB100,

I'm too lazy to go outside, uncover the bike and take more photos, so here are some images of a black Australian CB1100. The ad says it is a 2012 model, but I suspect it is more likely to be the 2011 model. I'm posting the photos rather than a link because the ad could disappear if the bike sells.

All this should give you some idea of what the standard tank looks like without the stripe.

This bike is from close to where I live, but I haven't seen him on the road.

So Emptysea..what were your impressions on the 14 dlx?

Hmmm...

Liked the chrome headers and the 4 into 2 exhaust, but I still kind of like how the 4 into 1 headers sweep around the front of the bike. I would love to ride this one, though, to see if the balance feels different.

Did not care about the indicator lights or the higher headlight. They combine for a slightly cleaner look, but it isn't much different to me.

Forgot to ask about the bar height. Sorry. Felt the same to me, though.

Liked the pattern on the seat, but it felt the same as ours. Some old guy there said he wished the seat was hinged like on the old 750s. That would be cool, but it's not.

The grab bars seemed different and, while I can't tell you how, I didn't like them. They looked fatter, I think. Maybe it was the lighting. Wink

I liked the silver block, but I think the black will look better over time since I don't love cleaning my bike.

The tank feels about the same in riding position.

Overall, I liked it, but I did not like it enough to trade mine in on it. I might change my mind if I found out it performed better than mine, but then again, I don't have the dough to make the change anyhow.

That's all I can think of for now. Let me know if you have questions.

Matt

Ok so now we have to keep a lookout for the 2014 member acquisitions and who gets VIN 0008. Big Grin

Cool, thanks for the input Matt.

RE: Bike show /CB - Buffalohead_imp - 02-08-2014

Cormanus,
I didn't know the Australian CB's didn't have the tank stripes. It look great, better than ours with the stripes IMO. I liked the 2013 stripes better than the 2014. I'm going to go without. The photos really helped. Thanks!

BTW, I like the silver wheels and engine too!

EmptySea,
I should have looked more closely and I might have read the comments about the Honda rep stating the red was different. Thanks!

RE: Bike show /CB - DAC - 02-08-2014

Yep. That black CB is a heart breaker with the silver engine and wheels.

RE: Bike show /CB - Cormanus - 02-08-2014

I like it alot. I'm glad the 2010-2011 models that got to Aus didn't have the black engine and wheels.
