Seem to get a lot more waves when riding the country roads, both from folks on bikes and those in cars & trucks. In the mountains everybody waves and if you stop they talk and sometimes feed you. Love the small town life.

Personally, I'm a waver...I wave 98% of the time (the 2% that I don't is when it would be unsafe to do so). All in, I got about 60% waves during this recent excursion. It was a disappointing wave count if you ask me. I love the two-wheeled brotherhood wave. It's fun and it let's me know I'm amongst the happy minority of people who are motorcycle riders. I'm generally not a judgemental person but I think riders who don't wave are D**SH's.
Hello
No one waved at me all day Saturday.

Of course, we were all going the same direction, on a racetrack. Biker

Seriously, a wave count to assess how fun the ride was? Hello Hello Hello

There ya go, hope that cheers you up! Thanks
Dude...Was just sayin, I like waves. The fact that I only received 60% didn't require any "cheering up"...Just gabbing on a forum. I'm rarely more cheerful than when I'm on my motorcycle.

Some of the reasons I wave at another motorcyclist:
1. I am really enjoying the ride & my wave is to acknowledge that I notice his/her existence and hope they are enjoying their ride as well... performing a "group"- custom as when I had a sports car back when...
2. To gauge the general attitude of the approaching rider in a nonscientific survey of opportunity to see if the other rider(s) respond in a "group" custom...
3. To notice whether the 2-up riders have the operator wave or if they have assigned that response to the pillion...
4. To "survey" whether the rider is one who has prejudicial tendencies by emphatically displaying the middle digit to which I infer that he has brazenly showed me his IQ!, therefore reminding me that there are many types of riders... not all as friendly as some of us wish to be...
5....also, related to #4...really being impressed by a rider who waves (friendly) or displays the middle digit with the RIGHT HAND doubly impressed me with his cruise control!
6. waving keeps me possibly more alert by paying attention to oncoming traffic... and to be friendly to bicyclist or another rider who I might have just passed...
Reason for waving at anyone who is going to make a left-hand turn...
#1. Hey... I'm over here in my oncoming lane & I want you to see me converging on your intended left-hand turn...I hope for your being aware of my hand movement which is more just holding my hand above my shoulder in a "HALT" mode to "wave" at you to establish an awareness to you of my presence(but ready to move my hand back to handlebar quickly) & most of all... if you wait until I am past your intended turn trajectory...I THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE & AWARENESS NOT TO HAVE BROUGHT CATASTORPHE TO ME!...
I wave also at deer along side of road, but I do not think they are paying much attention!... Finally,...I do not wave at farm dogs on county roads as I am trying to be in STEALTH MODE... which is one reason I like quiet pipes...HelloHelloHelloThumbs Up

After reading most of this thread I ask myself, "Why not keep one's hands on the bars where they belong and just give a slight nod? Or just not worry about all that stuff?

That said I waved at every single rider I saw today and every single one waved back, lots of Harleys.

I almost missed one guy on a small bike, his headlight was either off or none too bright, but I caught him at the last instant and I think he saw my wave.

There again I was on my ZX-10R, not my CB1100. Maybe that's why everyone waved and several motorists pulled along side so their kids could check out the Ninja and give me a thumbs-up.

True story.

Just thinking there must be an algorithm to calculate the significance of waves, frequency, meaning, and rationale. If not, sure some sharp tack here can come up with one.

I love #3 silverbub. I always fund the designated waving pilion kinda cute/funny.

I wave at everyone I see on a motorcycle, bicycle, tricycle, Big Wheel....You'd think I'm running for mayor...I don't really care who waves back, I'm just glad to be on my bike while smiling like a butcher's dog. Big Grin
