CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - emptysea - 09-30-2022 ![]() ![]() ![]() October starts in a few hours for most of us. I believe Gone In 60 gets to pick this month’s topic. I included the September calendar photo because it shows my bike with Custer State Park (South Dakota) in the background. It was taken on Wildlife Loop Road along which today’s annual “Buffalo Roundup” is taking place live as I type this. A spectacle I hope to witness in person, rather than on my laptop, someday. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Gone in 60 - 10-01-2022 Hi all and hope you’re enjoying fall riding. I’ve been traveling for work since it was still officially summer, and am currently in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I always find the sunsets here very pretty. So, if I am up to bat, how about your CB featured in the most picturesque sunset you can muster. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - The Gecko_imp - 10-01-2022 (09-20-2022, 07:03 AM)mtneers_imp Wrote: @ MT, when I see your photo I realize (again) how much the early DLX can shine with just a few modifications. Looked at my EX today (stripped from mud and dirt, engine running for the first time since .... forever) and I have to say ... your DLX looks better than any EX I have seen. Color, fender, 4-in-4, and not the least the gaiters. A very nice bike, a Good job !!! CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Mtneers - 10-02-2022 Thanks The Gecko! I can’t take all the credit. The 4-4 were already on the bike when I bought it from John H. I added the fork gaiters and transferred the fender from my 2014 STD. Plus, a few other farkles. I might actually be able to pull this off tonight. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Gone in 60 - 10-05-2022 Just got back home from a long work slog for the final events of our season. Saw a beautiful sunset last night, but I was riding home from the airport in an Uber, not on my CB. Looking forward to getting back in the saddle and finding my sunset. Ack - our gas went back up over six bucks while I was gone... RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Gone in 60 - 10-18-2022 Nobody up for snapping a sunset? Granted, took me a while. But, due to a lengthy cleanup after a painting accident at work (long story), I found myself stumbling out of the office high on acetone to get some fresh air, and realized it was almost sunset. Cleared my head and jumped on the CB to see where I could grab some pics. Here are a few that sort of go together. John Wayne is my home airport, not too far from home and a quick jaunt to the office. It's situated in a very unique spot, wedged between two freeways which make quite a short runway, and limit the size of commercial planes that can use it. It's also a short distance north of the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve, which is a great place to hike after work. The trail surrounds the bay, which is home to several species of wildlife who don't take kindly to jets flying right over them. As such, John Wayne uses what they term a "Noise abatement takeoff", which involves a steep climb, followed by throttling the plane back a bit, so that planes are as high as possible, making a minimal amount of noise when they pass over the reserve. In all of my walks around the bay, they seem plenty loud, but I guess they'd be louder with a normal takeoff. Anyway, the bay is a great place to watch the sunset. After taking it in, it was back on the perpetually under-construction 405 to get back to my painting project. Since I came up with the challenge this month, and seem to be the only participant so far, I will abstain from coming up with next month's challenge. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - GoldOxide_imp - 10-18-2022 That's good Gone. Airports are generally reasonable locations to catch the horizon sun, due supposedly to the open plain landscape. The other is large bodies of water, although one might only catch the sun rising or falling. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - Gone in 60 - 10-18-2022 John Wayne is very unique due to its location. While the largest commercial jets are usually 737s and 321s, FedEx and UPS each land a 767 there around 5:45, right when I'm on the car pool flyover bridge between the two freeways I take to work. This elevated bridge puts me up high enough to watch those big birds dumping as much speed as possible before they touch down and make what I can only imagine is the closest thing to an arrested carrier landing as possible. The airport is also a good indicator of local weather. When the planes are flying a reversed pattern, landing from over the water and taking off inland, it means we are experiencing our famous Santa Ana winds, and I'm probably being blown all over the freeway. RE: CB1100 Monthly Photo Challenge - emptysea - 10-18-2022 The first few days of the month had cloudless sunsets that fell below the "picturesque" standard set in the challenge. On the few days since then where the sunset wasn't completely obscured by clouds, I was not in proximitas vicinia of my CB1100. Still think it's a great challenge. I'll have to see what the sky looks like tonight. |
