Yes technically 4.1 qts which I guess technically would be 4 qts 3.2 ounces with a filter. That's why I throw in 4 qts and don't worry about it lol.

Then again, 1 US gallon = 0.833 Imperial gallon so mind your unitz, boyz.

I used 1 us gallon and when checked, on level ground the view port was completely filled in. I guess I should not have bothered! Just, when over filled you can not tell by how much. Last time the engine was cold so probably had quite a bit of residual left. Thanks! Next time I'll drain warm, put in the gallon and be good!

RE: Checking the oil level - max - 10-17-2017

With regard to oil level checks, i just found out that there is a check that works for me when the engine is running on flat ground on the centre stand.

the oil is at the low level mark if it is running and rises slowly to the top mark when stopped, this could be a double check
when over filled and above the window, but by how much?
If you run the engine and the level becomes visible you should be ok.

Maybe i'm to fussy but here goes; link to youtube; https://youtu.be/mEgQmyknW_4

All the best; Max

Thanks Max, informative video.

As my riding season is only 6 months long (May through October) and I ride once a week, I only average of 11,000 kilometers - 6835 miles each year. So my oil and filter change is done in early November when I put the bike to bed for the winter.

Which reminds me, I have to see if the Nelson-Rigg dust cover I used for my CB500XA will fit the CB1100 EX. I will remove the mirrors, as I did for the CB500, so it should be OK. Our 15 year old male cat loves to hide under the cover when the boss comes looking for him.

Ignoring it may be false economy, but the engine doesn't smoke or drip oil, the oil pressure light never illuminates while riding, the clutch and gearbox work perfectly, and I change it every 4000 miles anyway. Besides, I hate getting down on my knees. Anyone else as negligent as I am?

I check mine every weekend. I check all fluids in both bikes and my truck every weekend. Old habits just don't die.
